ALL EX Sedans were 4.058 FD, 35mm cases, I just talked with Qauife UK this week, THEY called me.
ALL 4.25 and 4.437 FD D series trannys use 40mm bearings, ZC DOHC 3.889 also.

Re: zc axles (cpuff)
You should be able to use 88-91 civic AWD wagon front axles. I'm going to try it with my Zc trans next week. IT has the same midshaft and spline size. That and it's a EF.

Re: zc axles (Cvic90)
Well here's my problem...I bought an "SI" transmission on e-bay and now after getting it all set-up my axles won't click into place. So as of right now I've figured that it's actually a ZC transmission. I'm not 100% though. the serial number on it is L3-1570551 and the number on that stamp above the oil drain plug is PL3/3000. I need to know if I can just buy those 09-93 integra axles and have them fit into the hubs on my CRX or if I have to swap out the side gears in the differential and use the old axles. If anyone has any advice on my situation...that'd be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Re: zc axles (bigbbass451)
i used 90-93 axles with zc intermediate shaft, and when i turned to the left real hard, the passenger side would pop out.
same thing when i used 88-89 integ axles.
so u can use 90-93 teg axle with the zc intermediate shaft, but u are better off using the actual zc axles.
i had aset that were beat up. so i just rebuilt them and they worked perfectly

Hi.
I have a stock euro 1991 CRX ED9. These came with the dohc ZC and the L3 tranny with the intermediate shaft. (probably the same tranny as on the JDM crx with the dohc ZC engine)
I need new outer CV joints. They are so expensive over here that i would like to buy the complete axel from ebay.com instead.
But will both 90-93 integra shafts fit this crx (in both ends!)?
I can see that the shafts are a bit shorter, but if so i'll just re-use the old shafts. I can even re-use the old inner joints if i really need to.

Thinking about buying these.

Re: zc axles
ok here's one. i have a 90 civic si hatch, with a zc swap but a crx si trans. my problem is a funny noise kinda a mixture between a click and a whirring sound. it makes this sound while in neutral as well it get noticably pronounced when in gear and driving. the only time it doesnt make the noise is when i push the clutch in. also i noticed the imput shaft housing for the passenger side axle is leaking, slightly, and it appears that the seal it misaligned or tweaked. could this be the throw out bearing or something worse? this is my first car with a cable trans and it has an ACT clutch and 8lb. flywheel. also new to me. any help would be greatly apreciated.
i believe bense, it really seems like this dude knows what hes talking about lol

Re: zc axles
my diff bearing went to crap. made a lot of grumbling noises most noticeably around 30-40 mph, when engine speeds were low and quiet enough to hear, yet fast enough to a good amount of noise.
i was prepared to swap out the input shaft bearing. but i just got a spare diff with decent bearings to replace the old one anyway.
either way, you need to open up the tranny if you have bearing issues. you cant service it outside or in the car.
(and why did you bump this thread that is fairly unrelated!) mods, can you do something about it?

Re: zc axles
yea i know i need to tear the trans out and apart to figure it out. no actually i have no idea what i'm doing i'm used to my hydro b series they are pretty much the same in ,a way, but this is my first civic as well as first car with a cable clutch or with uprated drivetrain for that matter, and other than swapping clutches or whole units i've never had a trans case apart, so this is new teritory for me. i didn't realize how old this post was and was researching posts for similar problems so i threw my question out there. i saw ZC, axles i thought... but atleast i have a couple ideas of what it could be now.

Re: zc axles
Hey everyone. I know this has been dead for awhile but I have 1990 Ef hatch. I swapped a SOHC ZC and tranny from a 98 Civic. My previous engine was the 1.5. My axle seems about 1/2 inch too short. When I put a 1998 axle in, it's perfect length but the end that goes into the knuckle is too big. My question is, is there an axle that will fit? Intermediate axle are impossible to find and I'm so close. I feel like I just to need to swap the knuckle, is there a knuckle that would work from a 98 into 1990??? Or is there an axle that has a smaller end and the same length??

Re: zc axles
sounds like your hatch is a STD model, in which case you would need axles for the 88-91 Civic STD or 88-91 CRX HF, both of which have a smaller splined end that goes into the hub.
