Re: Wrenching Your EF
made this to hold all my electrical components under the dash... just a quick question though the grey box in the pic does any one know what that is for and where under the dash does it belong?

No idea what the hell that means. Maybe something to do with seat belts.

Re: Wrenching Your EF
Thank you sir!
No worries. The best way I can explain it is this... When you place the key into the locking cylinder it is in the OFF position, right?
1 turn gets the dashboard lights to come on, fuel pump fires up.
Turn the key to the 2.5 position to engage the starter, car turns over and you let go of the key and it falls back into the 2.0 position. (if this makes sense)
If your ignition switch is failing, the mechanism is UNABLE to hold your key in the 2.0 position. (ON) So what I was experiencing included the car shutting off while idling. But once the car is moving, it was fine.
When the bottom falls out, it will not matter if you are moving or not, the car shuts off after turning it on. So WHILE driving, you have to HOLD the key in the 2.0 position for the car to run. If you push too much, it engages the starter and makes a lovely sound. If you do not push/hold enough, the car shuts off (while rolling) and you have to turn the car back on and continue maintaining the key in the 2.0 position.
Another tell tale sign is when the car shuts off, you get ZERO dashboard lights. At first, I was suspicious that I stalled the car... but when you stall a car, you get all sorts of dashboard lights. If it is your ignition switch, you get BLACKNESS. hehe Zero dashboard lights. So that is when I started to realize the switch was going. It is as though you do not have the key in the ignition. Zero connectivity between the switch and the key cylinder.
At first, you turn the car on, it shuts off. Turn it on, shuts off. Turn it on, it stays on. Bad igniter? Time to watch... 3-6 days later, the switch craps out and you now have to manually hold the key in the ON position to prevent the car from turning off while moving OR stationary.
I hope this helps.

Re: Wrenching Your EF
Parts came in and everything went back together really well. Changed the oil and filled up the coolant. Turned the key and the car turned over. Idling perfectly… bled the system, checked that both fans kick on…
Im motoring again!
Water pump removed. It looked to be intact but when you spun the pulley, a screeching sound could be heard. Quite annoying. The new pump was as silent as silent gets.
Water pump is back in, t-belt installed and tensioner set.
Timing belt cover installed
Pulley installed and driver side mount installed
All buttoned up and ready to go

Re: Wrenching Your EF
I doubt many here remember me, but I finally got back to wrenching on my Civic. I've had a solid CEL for almost a year now. I decided that after all my troubleshooting and tracing endless wires through the dash and checking continuity, I'll just replace the fuel pump. I dropped the fuel tank and couldn't find my pigtails for my Walbro 255. Typical.
I ordered a new one online and I'm waiting. Hopefully it is a dead fuel pump. I've been attempting to find a dead ground for a long time.
My fuel pump bracket looks rough. My fuel pump had CHUNKS in the sock. Does that sound abnormal? I thought it was abnormal. I'm thinking it clogged up over time. The gas looked pretty clean when I drained it though.
Manny, what are you going to mount your half rad with? I still haven't installed mine and your traction bar looks nearly identical to my innovative one (pretty sure it is the same bar).

Re: Wrenching Your EF
I installed an early first-gen Integra lip on my '91 hatch. I couldn't find a DA Integra lip so I bought this one for $10 hoping it would look okay. Now that it's on the car, I actually like it a lot more than the DA lip because it has more of a slope to it that makes it stick out further. I just need to tidy up the ends where I trimmed it.
