wire a fan switch
what all do i need and how do i wire up a fan switch in my hatch? all the fan wiring is gone and i found several switches that turn on around 200 digrese/turn off at 185 do i need a relay for this or can i just run a power wire from the switch and to the fan? of course to the batt also

Re: wire a fan switch
you should use a relay.
use the switch as the ground for the circuit
you can use a non illuminated switch
wire one side to a ground
the other side run thru the firewall out to your fan relay
relay wiring : (so you can turn the fan on and off when you want to)
85 - ground from switch "on" side
86 - 12v ignition
87 - 12v ignition
30 - power to fan thermostat
OR
you could run a relay like this (the fan would be on only when the car is on
85 - ground
86 - 12v ignition (from steering column)
87 - 12v ignition
30 - to fan power
if you mount the relay under the dash then the only wire going thru the firewall would be the #30 pin on the relay
also if you don't want to run a power wire thru your firewall... wire the relay like this
85 - ground
86 - 12v ignition power
87 - ground
30 - ground to your fan
then run a wire from your pattery to the fan. the fan would only come on when you turned the car on.

Re: wire a fan switch
why would you not use the original switch. you need to be getting coolant temp readings from that stock location. who cares if the wiring is missing, use the original fan switch to complete a circuit which will turn the fan on. like so..

Re: wire a fan switch
it doesn't matter what switch you use..... manual or the factory ect switch
you asked for relay information/wiring. thats what i gave. its up to you on how you want to actually trigger the relay manually (with a switch or just using ignition) or automatically cycle it (with factory ect switch)

alright thanks, the stock switch is there i guess i just need a relay, i know i can get them from radioshack but what about the plug/connector the relay plugs into? like a pigtail so i can connect wires?

7.99 @ radioshack gets you a soldering gun with solder included AND with an illustration on the back.
Or
get some female spade connectors that fit on the relay terminals, and crimp your wires onto them, then use the relay terminals like spades and STICK IT IN!

i already have all that so looks like im set, i just think plugging the connectors in like that kinda looks weak, and soldering straight to the relay looks like a ghetto job..lol

Re: wire a fan switch
Soldering it is the best way to go, so long as you insulate it. Use some heat shrink or GOOD 3M electrical tape. also, form IGN to relay, and realy to the Fan motor is gonna be higher current, so don't use #22 wire on them.
