whistling noise in engine when accelerating
My gf has a 98 civic ex auto trans and ever since i put an intake in her car it makes a whistling noise when accelerating. Everything seems tight, but i just can't figure out why its whistling?

it's air turbulence.

a possible but not realistic reason would be a supercharger
a possible reason would happen to be a bad ground in the stereo system.

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (89 CRX SI)
does alternator whine mean the alternator is bad because I just replaced mine and I still hear a strong whine when I step on the gas...

i believe it is more like a poorly grounded amp or other stereo compnent or not big enough wire running ther. or power wires to close to the RCA's / speaker wires
etc
etc

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (89 CRX SI)
Alternator whine can be caused by a bad bearing in the alternator as well. my mom's 2000 monte carlo had the alt replaced due to alt whine. they told her the bearing was going bad.
Also, i had my high output alt go bad. I stuck my old stock one back in and it has alt wine. That is why i replaced it in the first place.
Installing a cold air intake makes the engine louder. It is very noticable at first, just turn up the stereo

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (8400 rpm)
It's not the intake that does it, but it does provide enough air traveling over the butterfly in the throttle body to produce a whistling noise
All of my friends that have intakes said something at one time or another about the whistling from their engine bay, i did a little airflow research of my own and thats what i came up with.. The angle at which the air hits the butterfly is just enough to break into a high pitched whistle. Take off the intak and drive it around the block. The noise should stop; if it doesnt and someone else says soemthing, let them think youve got a supercharger under there or something

it's the intake....
its the sound of more air resonating through a larger tube...
u'll understand if u take physics.

hey people will be intimidated by her car when they hear it, they'll think shes got a turbo or a S/C.
i say leave it. J/K
where is the whine coming from? under the hood (would be the intake)
or inside the car (alternator).

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (x00gsr)
I cured my intake / butterfly whistle by re-adjusting my idle. When you put a CAI on it changes the flow enough that your Idle changes and your EACV has to compensate. Re-adjust your Idle and it goes away, at least it did for me.

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (low-tech assassin)
No doubt. I noticed the same whine on my 90 Civic, took the butterfly out (I love to experiment) Voila! No more noise. Now on to the distributor noise and steam coming out the exhaust pipe. lol

Re: whistling noise in engine when accelerating (slowman)
My 9 month old CRV makes a whistling noise when it is doing 2500 RPM. It only makes this noise at 2500 RPM any gear but not at any other RPM. Is this normal? It has only 3500 miles on the clock.
I haven't modified my car at all except for putting in a dog guard.

And that's a good thing. It means someone actually used the search.
