Re: (pontiac power)
well i just changed my spark plugs and i checked the compression (my dad put his hand over each one to see if there suckshon(sp?) and there was) and change the distributor cap...and well she started up without a problem sounded a million times better then it did yesterday....it wasnt slow didnt hesitate at all ran strong and fast....would it still be a piston problem?? also none of those things came out of the exhaust

Re: (N.O.R.E)
LMAO.... i had my girl do a compression test on my CRX like that. It was so funny because she ended up touching the spark plug and got shocked
But i guess it was maybe something in your exhaust

Re: (N.O.R.E)
You need to check the compression and do a leak down test just to make sure. Even 100 psi is compression. You should be able to shine a flash light in the plug wells to check whether anything is fucked up.

Re: (V8SHME8)
if it runs fine i wouldent worry about it. if you think about it the main reason you would check the compression is if was running like ****. since he pinpointed the prolblem to the ignition system he should be fine.
could have been a part of the muffler, someone could have thrown something in there you never know.

Well...severe misfiring causes HUGE flames out the exhaust....wich COULD cause a piece of a muffler baffle or something to come loose.
In that case...easy fix. You got lucky.
But for the sake of a good story I'm still kinda hoping that it's a chuml of piston, and we'll be having a couple of great kodak moments some time soon
j/k.

what happened to the engine that was just swapped out? it could have broken a timing belt or something like that... and a chunk got in the exhaust, then of course it was left in there after the swap.
plus, i'm curious how a chunk that big could get past the valve, its not like they have a whole lot of lift stock.

Exactly. how is something that big gonna pass by a valve. The piece that was on fire was probably an old lead/aluminum ring gasket, the one that goes between the manifold and the b pipe. He did say he was missing a manifold bolt and had an exhaust leak. More than likely you had bad gas in the car, the gasket sat in the bottom of your header and melted( lead melts easily ) and finally blew out your tailpipe.

idk probably....its starting to act funny now....like it wasnt acting as good as it was after i changed the spark plugs n ****....i going to change the ecu around this week and my wires...my brake lights and passendger side light stays on and i just bought a brand new battery 3 days ago and it already died
Edit: Also it feels like theres not enough air...feels like its getting clogged or something

go get a compresion test gauge. its like 10 bucks and really easy to do.then take off your valve cover and look if any of the valves are out of place. if you notice a couple are pushed up or bent. you going to have to take the head off and inspect your pistons.fun times huh? my roomate just needed some extra cash so he was doing a timing belt/water pump and tune up on a hyundaie and bent 2 valves and nicked a piston.

You need to bite the bullet and pull the head. Most likely something in your engine is fucked. It's not going to just fix itself.

well if your wanting info on the compression. there will be 4 different out comes per cylinder. they should all be with in the same range of each other. if you have one cylinder that has issues the numbers will be way less.you could also do what your friend sed to do and start pulling spark plugs one by one to see if there is any differnce in the motor. if your pulling plugs and you pull one and nothing happends there is your problem. when you look for bent valves look at how they are seated inside the head.they should be flush, if one is sitting higher than the rest there is your problem. if you notice this then pull the head and see if the piston has any damage to it. it most likely will but sometimes you get lucky, like my roomate did. good luck man.

Re: (N.O.R.E)
your car is a lemon and you have the worst luck with your crx. you might as well sell it and get another one and start all over.

hmmm, now i would move on to the compression test and a leak down test.if all is good then do the basic's check for fuel spark and timing.your motor might of skipped a tooth and is causing shitty performance.
