spun cam bearing? worth my time/work?
i have a 84 crx with bad motor, and looking at another 84 for really cheap. the problem is it has a spun cam bearing . i dont know what this is, and what it entails(easy to fix, cheap to fix and whatnot) im asking your opinions on whether its worth my time and then being able to have a parts car around.

If you can find a replacement head in a junkyard, it would probably be a much more cost effective repair to just swap the entire head. If you're willing to do some mechanical work, it's possible to do it yourself if you have tools and are willing to use a service manual or websites such as this to research the process.

Depends on how bad it's spun. Similar to a spun crank bearing where there can be damage done to the lobes of the crank. The same applies to the cam... you may end up with a junk cam if it's badly spun.

May be mistaken about your 84 Crx... but on most every modern OHC car the cam(s) runs DIRECTLY in the head. (No bearing inserts)
The cam runs directly on surfaces machined into the head itself.
The Crank and rods on the other hand have "replaceable" bearing inserts....
PS: Regardless if you swap the head for another... Or find a machine shop $$$$ that can rework the head to take bearings you'll need to find out "what" caused the cam "bearings" to spin. More than likey the oil pump is worn out. Or they didn't change the oil... Not changing the oil would cause the cam to seize in the head. (And wear out the oil pump)
Had one cusotmer with a VOLVO.. car had 58,000 miles on it and the cam had seized in the head....
