Whassup? Well, today I'm pulling out onto the main road and as I shift into 2nd, there's alot of resistance and then there's none, the shifter just came all the way back. So there's no shift gates or anything. I was able to get the car in gear by pushing it all the way into the gear slots, and I drove home like that. In order to engage 1st,2nd,3rd...etc I have to push the shifter all the way in. There's a ton of travel between shifts, like the distance between 1st and 2nd is like huge since the shifter travels so far.

Anyway, I don't know jack about trannys and shift linkages, I have the car up on jacks right now, one on each front wheel. Can I tighten the shift linkage at home or should I bring it to a mechanic?

I tried searching for topics on how to tighten the shift linkage but no dice.

just check to see if anything is broken or loose. it will be pretty obvious. just look in your manual(the fat helms one)

Last monday I replaced the shiftrod (number 15 on the pic) and my shifter is thight as a sixteen year old girl

Yup, the connector part at the very right of #15 causes my shifter to be very sloppy. i'll soon be replacing it as well. Also check into #14, the bushing. If its worn or cracked it can make it feel loose.

That's right... first replaced only 3 shifter bushings... that did not help... replacing bushings and #15 is the best solution...

make sure you have the factory pin holding the linkage into the tranny. If there is a bolt there, that is where your sloppyness is coming from.
