Default Nintendo car?

I originally posted this on my local Honda forum but I'll post it here too and ask you guys what you think.

So me and my girlfriend want to rent a garage and work on a project car. We have been talking about it all weekend with numerous ideas being thrown around for our first car. Some of the ideas that we have had are:

Lexus SC300 with Supra engine, Ford ranger with 5.0 engine, 96-2000 Toyota celica rear 96-99 Celica rear wheel drive mr2, 79-85 rx7, 88-91 civic hatchback. We obviously want to go with something that you don't see alot of even though the civic hatchback is all over the place. I personally don't want to go with the 1st gen rx7 because of the cost of replacing all the old OEM parts and getting it to sub-par conditions.

After much thought I was thinking about the possibilities of the Civic hatchback and design concepts already have me spacing out at work. I want to make it a theme car as well. I wanted to do a project car just for my girl exclusively and hello kitty the crap out of it but give it ***** so people would be embarrassed by a pink/white hello kitty car leaving you in the dust; but my girl doesn't want to do that. So I was thinking about getting a running POS 89-91 civic hatchback and turning it into a Nintendo car. This is going to take a while because she is concentrating on her condo and I'm still working on finishing the EK hatch and will need a few grand to finish the block/head and then the EK hatch will be done.

I will want to strip the engine and all the interior and paint the car mario red. I would then put a B16A2 back in it and get the valve cover painted to match with the traditional red/white nintendo logo on the painted plug cover and the oil cap powder coated gold and in the shape of the mario invulnerable star. Most of the bigger piping would be powdercoated green to simulate the Mario pipes with a picture of mario jumping over a cactus plant on the intake tubing. Either red or black carpet would be put back into the car along with the proper custom nintendo embroidered bucket seats. The N1 style exhaust would have a bent tip in the shape of the power up mushroom. I would also want to build the block and run a nitrous setup and powdercoat the bottle fire orange and either paint or get a vinyl bowser picture breathing fire. I would love to run the nitrous switches to the steering wheel and the switches would be in the shape of the green "1up" mushroom but I think that would be tough to pull off. Top all of this off with the classic wings west big mouth style body kit since it's not too aggressive looking and almost looks like the bumper is smiling to give it that smooth look. There is also an engine management that utilizes the gameboy advance to tune but would more be interested in the nintendo dual screen if it was supported. Getting rid of rust and the body work and making the car clean again is going to be the tough part and the main focus as well as keeping in line with the nintendo theme.

What do you guys think? I think the oldschool hatchback would match the time era type of feel I'm going for and it wouldn't work on a newer late model car. Am I wasting my time and money on something like this or would it be funny as hell seeing the Nintendo car at the track playing mario soundtracks and going fast? "Lets a go!"

That's what I was thinking too but that only attracts thiefs. Maybe if there was a Monitor in the back and duck hunt ready to play that would be cool. I'm trying to keep the whole nostalgic nintendo vibe going.

Having technology from 2009 into a car that's 20 years old looks ridiculous to me unless it's running/tuning the car. Like the guy with his S2000 cluster in his CRX. I'm not hating but come on how much did he pay for that? Probably could have bought another CRX for what those clusters go for. To each thier own

Well I got to keep it fun for me and my girl since we will be splitting costs down the middle. We want something that attracts a little attention and want to test ourselves fabrication wise. Her sister is an architectural engineer and her dad is a computer engineer so she feels she has to be an engineer of some sort since her profession and major deals with law Maybe mario embroidery on the driver seat and princess peach on the passenger? I don't know Either way we both will want to race it and beat the crap out of it when it's done. I've never done nitrous and want to see what it feels like and a big orange bowser nitrous bottle would be retardedly awesome

WTF? Sounds like you are on your own here Tex. Do what you want but I would recomend saving some money and skipping it. I mean, it would be exactly like throwing time and money in the garbage. You'll never sell the car and you won't win anything for it.

I want to track the car and send pictures to Nintendo We wouldn't expect to get a penny in return at all man that's a gimme in this industry unless you have something really over the top, clean, and reliable. Obviously a nintendo hatchback would be solely for our own enjoyment. MY 97 EK B16turbo hatch is almost done and and is photoshoot material. Believe me when John Brown is finished with the block and head it's going to be all over the interwebs trust that.

But we want something we can take our time with and don't care if we make mistakes because it will solely be ours and something we can say we did. Maybe it will be a waste but I'm going to shoot for the Civic and hopefully my girl agrees but we both definately agree we are renting a garage and doing a project car.
