My EF9 wont crank. Any other ideas?
Hey guys,
I have tried just about everything I can think of. Looking to get some help.
Details:
90 Honda Civic SiR
Factory B16
Started having this problem a month or so ago. Car runs great once you push start it, but I cant even get it to crank over. Orignally I turned the key to III and heard nothing so figured it was the main relay. I changed it out and it started up and ran for about a week. Tested the new relay and it checked out ok. Took out the starter and took it in for testing. Turned out bad, so I got a new one. Worked great for another week and then it happened again. Swapped out the ignition with a new one to see if it would work, it did. Then the next morning it wouldnt work again. I have checked my grounds, and my wires. All look good, and getting good voltage. Car sat for a day and started right up with no problems.
No CEL lights or anything else.
Any words of advice??
Thanks,
Mike

Are your grounds in good condition?
Thinking they might be corroded or somehow not making good contact.
When it fails again, try jump starting with cables rather than push start. Voltage might be good, but if the battery is old or not the correct type, then it may not handle the amperage and won't work.

Yeah all the connections seems in good condition. Even tried cleaning them off to be safe. The jump worked a few times until I got my new battery, which is another thing I replaced. Right now though the cables dont help.

Just for fun - to see if it IS a grounding issue take you jumper cable and put one end on the starter housing/bolt and the other (very important step) on the NEGATIVE battery post. Try and start the car.

due to age, your key cylinder switch might be corroded.
i came across the same symptoms in the past including my two hatches.
carefully disassemble the switch assembly, clean and re lube with a thin coat of grease.
notice one of the melted soldering in one of the wires. thing happened due to loose contact points, turning them so hot till melted.
