Default Lost keys

Lost my keys to my 91 wagon and ordered an ignition cylinder. After they got here i realized the original key has to be in the no. 1 position in order to remove the cylinder. Is there anyway i can remove the cylinder without the old keys?

I'm not so sure that is true for cars this old.

You have to drill out the cylinder, or you can try to use a punch and hammer to unbolt the bracket around the column.

1. Remove passenger side door handle.
2. Remove lock cylinder from handle.
3. Take cylinder in to a locksmith and have a key made for $15.
4. You can now remove the ignition cylinder, and you have a key.

Not sure why you ordered a new ignition cylinder, though.

I just went through this last month when I lost the keys to my 91 Hatch. As long as you have proof of ownership with the VIN the dealership should cut a new key. It was $8 and some change for me.
