Default Installed my short shifter along with energy suspension bushings.

I installed my dc sports short shifter and It feels great, the throw is so short. It feels like a racing game at the arcade. I think it hits the muffle alittle but thats fine with me. I had one question, in the picture

I did not use 3, and 4. They would not fit, my question is, is it ok. I was thinking the dc sports short shifter had them in there already. Heres what is says on the dc product.

The thing at the end of the sealed bearing is what I thought dc had in them already.

Wow... that is REALLY weird. Just yesterday I too installed a dc sports short shifter and energy suspension shift bushings in my crx! I had the same exact problem as you, the "black rubber thing with the white plastic thing" wouldnt fit. The end of the shifter seemed loose in the fork without them, so I really jammed it in there. It squeezed half out but the end of the shifter is secure now. I was planning on going back and 'fixing' this and am happy to see someone is having the same problem as me.

One other thing though. I did have quite a major problem while I was putting it in. The end of the shifter where the bearing is is MUCH larger then the stock shifter. The plate that screws into the ball housing is supposed to slide over the bearing part of the shifter, but it would not fit over the larger end of the dc short shifter! I didnt know what to do, and the resource was down so I was stuck. I ended up filing down the hole on the plate so that I could get it past the end of the shifter. Was I doing something wrong, or did you have the same problem?

Thanks!

Should have got a stock shifter made into a short shifter.... I'm waiting for mine to get finished.... Its a free mod so why not

I got Vibrant short shifter which quality is excellent and price is non-comparable to DC. The DC logo pays more than half of this part.

im assuming you are having your piviot point extended? cuttng a stock shifter doesnt technically make a shorter throw.

90blackcrx, yeah, im talking about piece #9. I knew how it worked and bolted in, but it wouldnt fit over the bottom of the short shifter because the end of the shifter with the bearing is much larger then stock. I ended up fileing down the hole in piece #9 to make it fit over the bottom of the shifter and in place to bolt onto the rest of the assembly. Are you saying you didnt have a problem with this?

whoa, and according to your diagram I think I put #12 in upside down. I was looking at other sites with guides installing a short shifter and in the pics they had the boot part of #12 facing down, not up like in that diagram. aM I reading the diagram wrong?

I have a DC short shifter and mine fit fine. I don't have the Energy Suspension bushing kit though. I love the feel of the DC shifter as well, its totally kickass.

Yeh my crx came with energy susp bushings the full kit and the shifter ones and a dc sports shifter.. that **** feels so nice : )
Be carefull though i broke myne.. but ghetto riged it with 2 self taping screws through the shift **** into the leftover dc shifter. Has been fine for 4 months like that now.

That is the right way for number 12, you probably have it upside down. I actually tryed putting that piece on the other way but it would not go on. And about piece number 9, I actually had a tough time getting it on but, I kind of put one side on first then the other side. Its alot harder if you have 3 and 4 on. Pepole with energy bushings and the dc short shifter, is it alittle harder for you to put into gear ? And does yours rub against the muffler at times ?

True to some people, but I know dc sports makes good quality parts.

Yes of course. Can't remember if it was extended by 1/2" or 3/4".... When I did this to my 84 Civic the throw was about 1" from neutral....

I guess mine was messed up because it definitely didnt fit unless I filed #9 down. It was the right application btw, 88-95 civic/crx I believe.

I finally got my whole car back together and the shifting does feel very good now with the dc shifter and ES shift bushings The shift bushings made a big difference I believe. I didnt take out the exhaust pipe to do this job, but with the old bushings the shift stablizer had a LOT of play in it. I was able to unbolt it at the shifter end and could simply lay it down next to the exhaust pipe. With the new bushings I bolted it onto the transmission end, and the bushings stiffened it up so much I could barely get it around the exhaust this time However, the bushing at the other end of the shift stablizer bar didnt seem to do as much, because of the urethane it still has some play in it, but its much better then before.

Overall

btw, how much did you pay? I got both the dc shifter and the energy suspension shift bushngs new for $83 shipped. Was that a good price?

I don't know about anybody else here but when I installed my short shifter with the ES bushings, the bolt and nut that holds it all together loosens up about once a month to where I have to get under the car and tighten it again. It doesn't matter how much I tighten it, it still gets loose. Anybody else have that problem? Any ideas on how to fix it??

you could get a locking nut that is the same size. You know, the ones with nylon in the middle. Tighten it really good and it shouldnt come loose.

Just a though.

I installed ES bushings and just cut the shifter shorter as well, I'm really happy with it. Good feel, slightly shorter throws but not much force required to get it into gear. I think this is a good compromise and much easier to do than taking the shifter assembly apart.

Thats a great price, where did you buy it from ? And about your number 9 not fitting, maybe it was cause you had 8 upside down. My 9 did not sit flush intill I bolted it down.

some store was having a end of year clear out. I saw it posted at groupbuycenter. They sold some brand new GC coilovers for a crx for $225 shipped... I was bummed I missed that deal by a couple hours :/

If anyone is looking for a dc shifter and ES bushings, I believe they still have some at that price. Check out group buy center and search for clearance.

i have a DC short throw and ES shifter bushings... my shifter fit fine... i don't remember how exactly i made it fit but i know for sure i didn't have to do any filing down of any parts... i haven't heard of the bolts holding the bushings in place coming loose, but i think i will check mine now just to make sure... maybe some sealant on the end of those bolts will help a little
