Idles fine, turns off with gas
First of all, I ran out of gas the other day. I know, that's stupid and sad, but my GF had my card, and I had planned to get it on my venture home from work.
The car had to be jump started at the gas station, ran fine
Started fine the next morning and I drove it to work, ran fine.
Got to work, started, and turned my lights on, and the car died.
I jumped it off, and drove it home, no problem.
I now can not get the car to start without a jump (I will replace the battery, no biggy)
I get jumped today, let it idle, and when I pushed on the accelerator, it died, instantly.
I'm wondering if it could be fuel pump/filter?
I have a pretty new alternator, idk if it could be that.
Thanks

Sock under pump stopping up maybe, try filter on firewall and check it for trash/rust as an indicator of probs further back.

Re: Idles fine, turns off with gas
Used a gauge from O'rileys(sp)? today. I was running 30psi through the fuel filter. I revved it a little bit, which was better than what it was usually doing. Before, it wouldn't let me rev at all.
After idling for a few minutes, the PSI dropped to around six. The car slowly begin to sputter to a stop. I will be checking fuel sock tomorrow for crud, just want to hear more suggestions.
I may have had my buddy hook the positive cable onto the ground terminal.. I remember seeing red on negative, but the ground wasn't on the red I also don't know of the other set was connected yet. I wasn't tentively watching them do it.. I'm hoping my electrical isn't shot.
Oh God.
Thanks.

you probably heated up the fuel pump when you ran out of fuel. i would definitely start looking there.

Re: Idles fine, turns off with gas
Looks like it got fixed it today.. Had a buddy come by and check it out.
All of this started happening as if it were due to me running out of gas, coupled with a bad alternator.
So after poking around, saw that a nut wasn't on the line running power from the alt.
Threw a nut onto the bolt, and viola! Runs like a champ again.
This would have been a lot simpler to fix if I hadn't of run out of gas... Then I would have suspected the alt a lot sooner. xD
Thanks for the comments.. Hope that maybe this will help someone one day? Doubt this happens a lot though.
