HELP Runnnnn die, runnnnn die, run die.
My little civic is ovulating again.
This month, it dies on me with no idiot lights. None. On Monday on my way to lunch I stopped short because of some idiot, but when I let the clutch pedal back up I didn't start moving. (No tach in cluster.) It started up fine, but when I came back out after lunch I tried 4 times to start it. It cranked, but didn't start. I opened the hood and made sure the wires to and from the distributor were in all the way. It started right up and I didn't have a problem again 'till today.
I'd been driving around for a good 3.5 hrs with no problem. Then driving along on the freeway the engine died.... again no idiot lights. I coasted over to the shoulder and turned the key and it started right back up. As I drove on I jiggled the ignition key to see if there was a dead spot in the switch. None. Then, as I pulled in the parking lot of my destination it died again. This time it cranked for a second then started up. I made it back home (20 miles) with no incident.
!PLEASE HELP! The cap, rotor and wires were replaced last month with Honda stuff.

What year? What motor? Can you explain the problem in anymore detail? Why did you go for the distributor wires? Was there prior problems with the dizzy? I guess we just need more info...

I had the same problem... it ended up being the Ignitor inside the distributor... It is not worth replacing the ignitor, just buy a new distributor, they are easy to find for a D series and pretty cheap. This should solve your problem... luckily I had a few extra's laying around!

Like my sig says, it's an '87. I'm not versed on the engine block codes, it's a 1.5l carburated. There is no more detail on the problem; that's exactly how it happened. I went for the "in" dist wire because it's one of the last ignition parts before the spark plugs. I don't have a Helms manual yet... It doesn't mis-fire or hesitate (aside from having no ***** in the first place.) I recently (4 mos ago) had the carb overhauled.
Thanx for the info, NoTEC.

Re: HELP Runnnnn die, runnnnn die, run die. (scn095)
The mechanic MAY have found the problem. I replaced the air filter a few weeks ago and seem to have bumped the metal cover over the valve (?) that controls the diaphram that opens the door to let cold air/ air off exaust manifold in to the carb. The door may have been held open, allowing constant cold air in, causing carb icing. (You A&Ps and pilots especially know that i'm talking about.) The weather has been cooling down and been more humid...
Hopefully that was indeed the problem. Cost= 0
