Please HELP. Run- die... run- die
My little civic is ovulating again.
This month, it dies on me with no idiot lights. None. On Monday on my way to lunch I stopped short because of some idiot, but when I let the clutch pedal back up I didn't start moving. (No tach in cluster.) It started up fine, but when I came back out after lunch I tried 4 times to start it. It cranked, but didn't start. I opened the hood and made sure the wires to and from the distributor were in all the way. It started right up and I didn't have a problem again 'till today.
I'd been driving around for a good 3.5 hrs with no problem. Then driving along on the freeway the engine died.... again no idiot lights. I coasted over to the shoulder and turned the key and it started right back up. As I drove on I jiggled the ignition key to see if there was a dead spot in the switch. None. Then, as I pulled in the parking lot of my destination it died again. This time it cranked for a second then started up. I made it back home (20 miles) with no incident.
!PLEASE HELP! The cap, rotor and wires were replaced last month with Honda stuff.

"No idiot lights" does seem to indicate your problem lies in the ignition switch. Trying to find a dead spot is usually unsuccessful.

i know it sounds dumb but check your battery terminals (+,-) for loosenes. You should not be able to turn them one mm if they're on tight enough. I had a friend who was ready to tow to the mechanic (and exhibited the same problems as you - no idiot lights) until i jiggled his terminals and found they were too loose. It was problem solved after that...
