Fast Idle 2000RPM causes Check Engine = Failed Emmisions Test
Not sure what is causing the problem with my 90 crx dx 1.5 auto
When I go in for inspection they require you to do a 2000 RPM test for emissions which takes about 2 to 3 minutes. You just sit there and fast idle it at about 2000 to 2300 for as long at it takes for the test to happen.
If your check engine comes on then you fail.
If your Emission levels are out of range then you fail.
If I do this in a parking lot the light will come on .. it happens hot or cold.
Thinking it might be the O2sensor since i don't think it has ever been changed.
Don't get an error light other than the Check Engine.
Requires a total shut off / key off.. for the check engine to go away but then it will go away until you try again.
Once off and restarted the engine does not produce a Check Engine under normal conditions.
The Engine does not produce a Check Engine other than every two years when i bring it in for Emissions.. car seems to run fine.
Has a new Cat on it but this happened before and after the cat was replaced.
Been happening for idk 10 years now .. its a drag.
Any ideas?
I am not apposed to replacing the O2 sensor but not if it is working and it seems to be under normal circumstances.
It is not reproducible every time.. maybe every third time .. but it will always happen.
Thanks

If the check engine light comes on it indicates an error code. It doesn't turn on as some sort of standard.
