B16a idle surge
I have a b16 in my crx the stamp says "B16A" the idle is surging nasty... from like 1000 to 1500 rpms when shes hot.. or a steady idle thats at 1800 rpms... ive added coolant slowly while squeezing the upper hose until the air is gone, cleaned the iacv so should my next step be the fitv? im also wondering if i clean the throttle body can i open the butterfly with my finger? i know you can on certain cars so im asking first
thanks in advance

Re: B16a idle surge
also could the idle screw be a culprit? and ive noticed the car seems to be slugish or almost like it bogs out when im getting on the pedal until about 4k rpms or so then it jerks a bit and takes off... almost like its not getting enough fuel or something but i dont think thats related to the idle surge

Take the backing plate off of the fitv and fix it. Should fix your ide issue

Re: B16a idle surge
i was going to take it apart tonight but it seems that my fitv is different that the ones from the pictures... it looks like its part of the throttle body meaning there was no way to remove it to clean! I did however notice the throttle body was quite dirty with carbon so i scrubbed it down with cleaner and a toothbrush and noticed that when pushed completely closed the idle drops to a perfect 850rpm

Re: B16a idle surge
So heres where i stand exactly.. from a cold start the idles a bit high but seems to calm down a bit when warmed when apply a quick rev at operating temp the surging idle comes in until i stick my foot under the gas pedal and pull up a bit... perfect idle! So should i replace my throttle body? Also i watched my car start from cold and idle until operating temp and the fan on the radiator did NOT turn on???

If you have to put your food under the gas pedal to make it idle right, I would adjust the throttle cable. I'm willing to bet that your throttle cable is too tight if pulling up on pedal fixes the idle. adjust it to where it doesn't pull on the throttle , but is still snug enough to not have noticeable slack. THEN worry about the fitv. At that point you may not even have to touch it. You practically answered you own problem when you mentioned the idle being perfect when you lift the pedal.

Re: B16a idle surge
There is actually a specific amount of deflection that is supposed to be on the cable, but what matters is that it's not pulling the throttle at all. There is a throttle stop that keeps the throttle in a specific spot when at close. Let the throttle stop do its job by loosening that cable.
