Default b16 crx tanny question

im looking at getting an 88 crx with a b16 and the trannys shot, it only has 1st 3rd and 5th, so i was thinking if i get it id swap it out for a new working one, my question is with all the b-series tannys (b16,b18 typeR, gsr or ls) which one would be a good choice, my build is for a lil bit of fun nd maybe track once and a while.i was leaning twards gsr or ls...well let me know thanks

You are leaning towards two different ends of the spectrum. LS is the highest(longest) gear that you can get and the gsr is one of the lowest(shortest). I have gsr tranny in my b16 crx. 70 mph is right at 4000 rpm. Sucks ***** for road trips.

ok the weird thing is the ls seemed to have a shorter gear ratio then the b16, but a buddy of mine has a b16 ls tranny, is there any bolt up issues or customizing id have to do to bolt this up ??

I guess maybe we have a different definition of "shorter". The gsr will rev quicker than the ls on the same engine. B series is bseries, it'll bolt up.

It can be a bitch if you don't have the right tools. I've done it quicker by pulling the entire motor. I couldn't get my car up high enough to get under it due to a screwed up jack lol.

i just did a tranny swap. due to no garage and the rain. it took me about 5 to 6 hours. i just finished today. i swapped my 93 ls tranny even for b16. i just needed to get a new clutch.. i have a 88 four door with ls swap. i used 2ton hydro jack. and a 1 ton. the 2 ton got the car high enough. i used the one ton to put under the engine to help guide tranny in. left motor in and all the wires hooked up. just got to be extremely careful.......if your planning to go all motor. id try to find another b16. if boost then i go ls.
