Default another dpfi thread

long time honda tech stalker, first time poster. i come here alot for "tysons" faq and guides post.

i own a 1991 ef sedan lx with a dpfi d15b2. i had plans to make it mpfi, but held off because i want to do it at the same time i put a d16z6 head on it.

i have a few questions that i tried searching for and found nothing (or its common since and im stupid)

*does mpfi require an obd1 conversion(or does it make it obd1)?
*with a d16z6 head will i need to be obd1?
*can i use the intake manifold, injectors, distributor and everything from a d16z6 for this head swap/mpfi swap?
*when and if i convert obd1, is it better to convert the ecu and harness/ or get a new ecu?

No

the easy way, yes.

Yes
*when and if i convert obd1, is it better to convert the ecu and harness/ or get a new ecu?
If you convert to obd1 get an ecu jumper harness, and an obd1 ecu and obd1 distributor, ecu and dizzy must match OBD

1) MPFI is a fuel system based on 4 injectors while DPFI is just 2. MPFI exists in OBD0 and OBD1 systems.
2) You do not need to run OBD1 to use the Z6 head. However, it will save you a lot of trouble and the engine will run better if you do. Most OBD0 ECUs do not offer vtec control. The ones that do have fuel and ignition mapping that aren't the greatest for the Z6 head. So you either rig something together or you get a vtec ECU chipped and a tune for your engine.
Much easier to just get the conversion harness, ECU and 4 wire O2 sensor.
3) Yes, you can use all the intake and distributor from the Z6. The distributor will require you to use an OBD1 ECU.
4) It is REQUIRED that you MODIFY your existing DPFI harness to MPFI spec, then get the OBD0-to-OBD1 conversion harness, and use an OBD1 ECU.

alright. i just got a great deal on a y8 head on a d15 block. are all the answers still the same if you replace "z6" with "y8". and red-rocket, what is the "easy way" And i have a spare p06 ecu,

all answers are still yes

basically the d16z6's distributor mount is unique to the head casting and therefore you can only use the z6 distributor (easy way) or you can dick around and modify the distributor mount to bolt on an obd0 ecu, but like
4drEF said tuning options aren't that great for obd0 sohc vtec, besides turboedit

also you WILL NEED A TUNE d15 block with Y8 head means the compression is sitting anywhere from 10.3:1 to 10.7:1, for the sake of the motor's longevity get it tuned!

BTW not trying to be a dick, but all of these questions have been answered, get familiar with the search bar at the top of the page.
