88 dx (Ef) Cabin harness and dash harness
hi I have an 88 dx (ED6).. when i purchased the car all the wires where hackedd to hell
I have a new motor harness witch is a dx harness and now i have to get a cabin harness alsoo.
Is the cabin harness and dash harness the same thing? on the floor of my car i see a harness with 2 plastic bars conected to them.. I belive this is the cabin harness but it appears its coming from under the dashh? soo the harness that runs the whole inside of the car is the cabin harness, dash harness or both?
Is there a good cheap place online to look? cant find anything on ebay or google really..

Re: 88 dx (Ef) Cabin harness and dash harness
there is a cabin harness and a dash harness.
the dash harness is mostly under the dash that plugs up to the fuse box that is under the dash...
the cabin harness mostly runs on the floor coming from both side of the firewall going to both doors and all the way back to the rear tail lights.

Re: 88 dx (Ef) Cabin harness and dash harness
Let me correct the post above.
Here is the main body harness:
It covers both doors, and enters the engine bay on both sides of the firewall to get as far as front lights, ac, wipers stuff. In the engine bay it connect to the engine harness.
Ignition switch and both fuseboxes are also part of this harness.
Inside of the car it connects to the dash harness that does nothing but connect all of the switches and instruments you see on a dash.
Under the dash, by the fusebox, it also connects to the cabin harness (the one with plastic bars) which is responsible for door open switch, dome light, sunroof, seatbelt warnings, fuel pump, tail lights, rear speakers (wires are always there, even if there are no speakers), trunk lights and rear wiper.
Technically you can also unplug both taillights (they are separate), and hatch wing light. But they were always considered a part of cabin harness.
Check out first page of my project there is a picture of all of the harnesses out of the car.
Hope it helps.

yea it does helpp thankss.
I see that your dash is off and this is why your dash harness is visable. I see wires coming from under my center console (with the 2 plastic bars).. if these are the only wires visable on my car, im thinking that my dash harness might be intact and fine.
these wires that come from under the dash (plastic bars) are ruined.. this dosnt mean i have to replace the dash harness unless I can see under the dash and see that i need to replace it correct?

Re: 88 dx (Ef) Cabin harness and dash harness
You cannot get to dash harness without taking the dash off, which some people consider pain in the ***, and try to avoid it, which makes me think that your dash harness is fine. Do you see any signs of tempering with the dash itself?
As far as cabin harness wiring goes - troubleshoot it first - What doesn't work back there?
Are your taillights ok? Do you get fuel and the car runs? Are there fuses that keep blowing because of the short somewhere? Be systematic about it.
If you have clear view of damage and you can splice back the wires (solder and heatshrink - NO BUTT SPLICES!) I would suggest trying that first. Even if your wires are cut - remember that they are color coded and you can figure out what goes where easily.
I am saying this because to do a nice job with replacing cabin harness you are looking at rear quarter panel removal, under the hatch panel, maybe rear seat as well. So think about it.
Benefits of putting an untempered harness there are obvious, plus while you diving under the dash I would try to get to Main Relay take it out for checkup and perhaps soldering trick if you think it may be giving you hard time with starting.
