zex 59300 cam question
i just got this cam today for my d16z6 and wanted to put it in tomorrow. was curious though because it said to use upgraded valve springs with it. is anyone out there using this cam with a completely stock head with no problems?

Even IF someone is...
A. they're not smart and it's only a matter of time before they SERIOUSLY regret it...
B. You'd be dumb for following suit and it would only be a matter of time before you SERIOUSLY regret it...
The spring/retainer kits for those are pretty cheap anyway... I'd wait if I were you... Even if you're doing it yourself it'd be MUCH easier to do it all at once...
You want the springs/retainers for a couple of reasons...
The springs will pull the valve shut faster than the stock ones... this becomes VERY important depending on the lift of the cam... If the lift is high and the stock spring can't shut it in time you WILL get valve slap... and that could possibley blow your engine... if not bend a valve...
Not just that but the lightened retainers and the (i'm assuming) lighter springs will allow the engine to rev higher... making for a longer stronger powerband...
Also if you do it against recomendations you won't get any warranty coverage if something does go wrong that's not even blamable on the springs/retainers.... or lack there of.
Good luck...

Re: zex 59300 cam question (NonovUrbizniz)
i would get the valvesprings. i think they are cheap, like 150 or 175 for 16. this will help prevent valve float at higher rpm. as for retainers, they are a wear item and should be checked/replaced at some interval(maybe 10,000 miles or so). if you are gonna keep reasonable rev limit( the 59300 powerband ends at like 7800rpm) the stock retainers should do you fine. personally, i have a skunk2 stage 1 cam(will be in soon i swear) and skunk2 valvesprings with stock retainers. i plan on revving to like 7500-7800 and im not worried about the head in the least.
