I could say that i went to Elac for my test (which i did btw) but i live about 15miles away. You car could get stolen just going to the gorcery store. Its sad but true. Not just hondas, any. Get kill switchings, boots, pull the ecu make it so if they really want your car they have to tow it.

Anyway congrates on your test. Only question i have though is the fee. I heard from a friend in Sacramento who works directly with the BAR exam setting up your appointments that now its 100 and some change or something to pay more of the fees to keep the BAR exam open. But if you got it for 35 then that seems a little odd to me. When was your first test? </TD></TR></TABLE>

Its $98 dollars now, it changed in September, from $38 to $98. that is what i've been told when i got my car Bar'd. $90 for the actual testing, and $8 for the sticker.

what is the use of this thread besides you being a attention ***** saying look at me look at me i got a sticker and i am not telling you where i got it ... and the imput about having the right ecu for the car this is not new information so basicly this is a repost then .... useless thread

and yes who gives a expletive about your civic getting stolen .. that is what insurance is for i have a 2001 gsr and a 2000 civic si and i dont care if either gets stolen because it is insured properly ... man the f uck up

</TD></TR></TABLE>

right... now get out of here. why do you have to come in here and be a dick? anyone who says that they dont care if their car gets stolen is full of crap. it's not just the money. personally, my car is more to me than money. i have put a lot of time into it.

there is a differnence between being an attention ***** and just being proud of something. and im not just here to show off......everyone that asked me questions, has gotten my help. i am very willing to help anyone who needs it.

the main reason for me to have made this post to begin with, was to show people how easy it is to BAR there jdm motors. i know in the past there was some question as to whether it could be done or not.

i think that there are some people out there who would find some of the info that i have to offer useful. if you dont......get outta here.

oh, and to everyone who's asking. i paid $30 for the referee inspection and $8.25 for the certificate. im glad i didnt have to pay $100. If you would like to verify, please call

California Department of Consumer Affairs
Bureau of Automotive Repair (B.A.R)
1800-622-7733

call this number for general info, scheduling an appointment, etc.

you need to have the correct ecu for the motor (not the car). so yeah, if you are going to put in an obd1 gsr, then you need an obd1 CA p72. hope that helps
</TD></TR></TABLE>

I put in a 97 obd2 gsr motor. Now would it matter what year obd1 ecu I use?

You would need an OBD2 ecu if your motor is a '97

GTFO, asshat. This guy is here to help others out and show it can be done, even with a mod like a S2 manifold.

hey man....this is the thing. the new motor that's goes into your car must be the same year or newer than the car that the motor is going into. so if your car is a 94...you would need a 94+ motor. whatever motor you put in....that's what ecu u use. so, since you're using a 97 motor....you would need an obdII ecu.

then you would have to have all of the smog equipment for your obdII motor. This is what the ref told me....he said that he first checks the ecu, then does the visual inpsection based on what ecu you have.

you call that a mod??

you can pass smog with a freaking greddy turbo kit, of course some almost stock intake manifold is going to pass.

mod·i·fi·ca·tion (md-f-kshn)
n.
1. The act of modifying or the condition of being modified.
2. A result of modifying.
3. A small alteration, adjustment, or limitation.

I dont care if he just has a squash air spencer or ls/vtec b20z turbo all motor NAWZZ with stage 8 cams and 18.9:1 pistons... Im just making a point. Since his motor is no longer 100% how it came from the factory, he has done a/some modifcations. Just because the manifold looks "nearly stock" (which the GSR and S2 manifold look nothing alike) doesnt mean it will pass a B.A.R. exam. It has to the a CARB E.O. number or the Ref will reject it and you fail.

So thanks for your expert technical imput.

i am trying to make a point here that it is just a CIVIC not a limited production or a exotic car ... yeah they get stolen every day but what does that have to do with where he had the bar done ? and yes i can say i have pride in my cars i built them both from ground up ... people who know me can vouch for how clean my cars are and the pride i took in building it BUT if it gets stolen i am not going to cry about it i am more grown up then that and i pay for the proper insurance coverage in case my car gets stolen... i have had 2 cars stolen from my house THIS YEAR so i know what it is like to have a car stolen it has nothing to do with where you took your car for a inspection or bluring your plates online ...if someone wants your car they will get it no matter what

i still havent seen any info in this thread that wasnt covered in the FAQ so it is just another repost

i dont give a **** if you want to take my advise or not btw what does having 2 cars stolen have to do with taking my advise ? i mean **** how hard is it to steal a honda ? even with a alarm and kill switches it is easy to bypass if you know what your doing .... look at the type r owners that have had their cars stolen from their garage ... you wouldnt take their advise either?

and what is the use of helping anyone that cant just go to the FAQ and read the exact same thing?

If you know anything about skunk2 manifolds.... you'd know it performs "nearly stock" as well.

Modified by Stripped Honda at 8:37 AM 11/8/2005</TD></TR></TABLE>

what u say is true.....it is easy to steal hondas. but my point is......why make it easier??

by u mentioning typeR owners that have had their cars stolen from their garages just supports my point. the thieves had to have gathered some knowledge about these typeRs before jacking them......so why give more info than i have to?

although my permanent address is in socal....im currently living in smaller town. if thieves were to know what ref station i went to....it wouldnt be too long before they could find out where my car is (especially because there arent too many hondas in my particalr town). if you cant understand this....then there is no point talking to u. havent you ever heard the phrase "better safe than sorry"? why would i put myself more at risk than i have to....it doesnt make sense.

as far as info goes...
among other things......some people have been asking about the price to get their cars BARed....and there have been some discrepencies. i would like to think that i cleared some of that up.
i know that there are a lot of people that were happy to learn that it only costs $38 to ref their car. even if this was the only useful info in whole thread....the thread would still be worthwhile.....because it still helped a few people.
just because you dont have any use for the thread, doesnt mean that other people wont find it interesting.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">and what is the use of helping anyone that cant just go to the FAQ and read the exact same thing?</TD></TR></TABLE>

think about this.....some people are new to the game and dont even know there is such a thing as getting their cars BARed. how would those people even know to go to the faq section to look for info? anyway, it is always nice to get someone's point of view who has gone through the process recently.....not months/years ago (what if things have changed?).
