what's the sealant around the bracket that holds the upper control arm?
My rusty 97 LX sedan is getting new lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and upper control arms. I have all that **** out on the left side, and the rectangular bracket that holds the bolt and the upper arm is pinned (I think) to the body, and around the seam there is this hard rubbery, thick white sealant or some ****.
The ******* bracket on that side is coming away a little bit so there is a crack in the sealant and some came off I think. So I want to hammer it back and seal it up again.
Thanks if you know a commercially available subsitute.
Thanks

its probably either seam sealer or some kind of under coating. Without a picture, I really am confused about where specifically you are talking about. Chances are it was some kind of under coating spray that was shot up there at some point by a previous owner

are you talking about the bracket that your engine mount sits on? that means the bracket is pulling away from the body. I would have it rewelded.

Its a seam sealer to cover where they welded the strut tower together ....keeps it from rusting ....its normal they all have it

So if I go to Autozone or O'Reilly I will find something called "seam sealer"?
It maybe has pulled away a little, I was going to tap it back and seal, after I measure to make sure it is or is not pulled away from the body.
YES, it is in the strut tower. I will attach some pics, the first an overview of where it is, then the crack in the sealant, then the other side which looks good.
It isn't loose or anything. I just want to make it right, and make sure it is safe.
