If you don't floor too hard on the accelerator, it isn't that bad. The noise is there, but with just about any aftermarket muffler, the DB will increase somewhat.
If you are just cruising in 3rd gear around 2500 RPM, it is just deep and that's about it. Nothing too outrageous.

I've got the same set up mated up with a T1R b-pipe. As far as the sound goes, its got a nice rumble unlike the weed wacker rattle of other fart cans. If I decide to go out for a long drive or chauffeur the girlfriend around , I usually put the silencer in.

Tanabe SM with de-cat!!!!!!!! no sound like it in the world, go through a underpass and redline that ****, you will get addicted. Only for the hardcore as their aint nothing subtle about it. But the thing just will not spit flames, honda map cars to good.

I had the N1 on my gs-r and it was loud, but I liked the way it sounded. Now I have a Greddy on my hatch with 2.25" piping, and I love it! Less louder than the N1 but produces a nice deep sound that sounds great.

Re: what brand of muffler creates the best sound? (G-CIV)
IMO any exhaust on a 4 cylinder sounds like crap. I don't care what brand it is. I only like exhausts on V'6's or V'8.s For 4-bangers I like the way intakes sound.
For years I wouldn't get an exhuast on my Civic then finally I decided to get a full exhaust on it. I bought a Magnaflow exhaust on my Civic Ex. At first I liked the way it sounded, its sounded deeper and less ricey than my exhausts I had heard but over time I started to dislike it. It was always noisy, especially on the highway cruising at 80mph. It didn't help that I didn't have any interior from the front seats back but even when I went to sell it and had full interior back in it was still to loud IMO.
If you are looking for a good exhaust try a Type R exhuast. It's quiet and will yield some gains.
That's just my opinion.
