Just because vtec isn't engaging doesn't mean the issue is with the solenoid.
Use the search button. There are a million other threads exactly like this and each one will state the same 3-4 possible causes.
And just so you know, atleast 95% of the people in the 92-00 Civic forum will not even open this thread because you spelt vtec wrong.

No we all generally hate when people spell it wrong. But anyways...
How do you know the vtec isnt POPPIN' y0? Are you throwing any CEL's? Do what andoxviii said and search for it. Prolly in the archived section if anything.

Go here, ff-squad.net. Then go to the tech section and wiring diargams for obd1 civics. It has a pin-out of the ecu and where the vtec solenoid wire is, follow your solenoid wires and and see they go to the correct places and have no broke wires and such. Also, check for codes as mentioned. Commonly on swaps people hook the tps and map backwards which can cause a cel, not sure if it'll cause vtec to not engauge.

It could be solenoid, there is a way to test though. I cant remember what it is but seatch around and im sure you'll find it. The way i usually do my searches is go to yahoo.com and and type in what ever it is im searching for and put honda tech after it, does wonders for me, lol.

you can test the solenoid by giving the wire power and putting it to ground and it should click if its working (someone correct me if im wrong, please).

I don't mean to come off as a ******* either, but tell your friend he's a dumb **** for telling you he has a b18 sohc. One main part of diagnosing a problem is to have correct information present, which is not the case.
And what's with the juice and bags??

Maybe Nitrous and air ride suspension im guessing?
And thats a big x2 on the correct information. Its hard to help you with a problem if you dont have the correct information.

Well, the search engine won't correct spelling when you do a search.
So while you might find some help if you search for "VTECH", you will probably have much better luck if you search for "VTEC".
This isn't about teasing you about your spelling, it's about you being able to find the information. If you misspell the term, you won't be as likely to find the information you need.
OP, after reading through this thread it sounds like the best idea is to get your friend to sign up and ask the questions himself. Having a middle man just makes it more likely that the lines will get crossed.

Re: vtech soleniod not working (collins97)
NOFX was being factual and not being a dick. But you really should try searching because there are a hundred threads on VTEC solenoids i gave you 2 links that should give you somewhere to go. And he had a good point if you searched for VTECH you would find a **** load of people getting flamed. And trust me if you spell it that way in the accord forum someone will flame you there. But lesson learned, dont misspell it.
With that said, good luck to your friend
