Transmission Fluid
I need to drain and fill my auto transmission fluid. I bought some Dexon III but also saw that they make synthetic fluid. I called Honda and asked if I could mix a synthetic with what came in the car (Honda trans fluid) and he stated the generic, "We only recommend Honda trans fluid b/c other fluids don't work as well as Honda's brand as Honda includes some additives specifically designed for Honda cars. Is there any truth to this? Can I use any Dexron III or even a synthetic (and if I use a synthetic is there any problem combining it with the original Honda trans fluid that came with the car)?

It's an automatic. No matter what type of fluid you fill it up with, you're not going to notice a bit of difference. Stick to what Honda recommends.

Re: (Deemeetree)
Dexron III is fine. I'm also willing to bet that most Honda/Acura dealerships don't generally use Honda tranny fluids anyway (ie: Dexron III or 5-30/10-30).
