The manual is from a '00 ITR, though the information is the same as that in the '98 manual also.

That was before the release of Honda MTF, so that was the best available at the time. Now that a superior fluid is offered, why not use it?

Why? like i said earlier for as many swaps as i do, why waste atleast 20 bucks on fluids when Motor oil CLEARLY does the exact same thing and cost like 1.75 a quart.

I dont know about any of you, but ive never heard of a honda tranny falling apart internally bc someone put 10w30 in it.

To each there own, but i bet my transmission lasts just as long as your honda fluid transmission

maybe mines JDM too bc mine holds 3 quarts

Ok first off, i have done a lot of tranny removal's in these past month and everyone had 10w-30 in their car except me and the magnet on their car was like holy **** full of shards and mine had almost nothing and this is out of 9 trannys and a lot of them dont beat on their cars, so if there is a difference i would say yes, quarts off honda mtf in Brooklyn cost 4 bucks i dont think its that much more then 10w-30 because 10w-30 cost like 2.50 or something unless you sit outside autozone waiting for a sale, so are you really that lazy not to go to the dealership, because i have seen a difference with my two eyes and i will never use 10w-30 ever again no matter what and all the manuals i have say to use 10w-30 only as a substituted until you can get honda mtf. Not to be rude but off course people are going to say sure use 10w-30 because that is what they are using because they are to lazy to go to the dealership and they dont want to admit to there selfs that its not good for their tranny so they say to themselves in their brain this is working for me, why not tell everyone else to use 10w-30.

You can pick up the proper fluid for around $4.50 per quart. Using either 2 or 3 quarts per transmission (depending on the model), that's a huge savings of $5.50 - $8.25 over your generic 10W-30 motor oil. If that cost savings is honestly your only justification for not using what Honda actually recommends for its transmissions, that strikes me as rather poor reasoning.

don't fill from the fill bolt, you'll never get 2 quarts in that way. It only works if you have the tranny out and on end. Taking the VSS off and filling through there works pretty good.

Use the genuine Honda manual transmission fluid. Its like 6 bucks a quart at my local Honda dealer, so how cheap can you be not to just pick up 3 quarts? There transimission fluid contains certain additives that MOTOR oil does not contain, there for making it the right choice.
