Re: Trailing arm bushing replacement, tips?
I've seen people on many occasions stick the trailing arm in a bench vice and hit it a couple of times with a 4lb sledge and it pops right out and right back in.

Edit, judging by the video I'm sure a large ball peen would work fine. A 4lb sledge would probably be overkill.
I forget sometimes that I make armor

Didn't work here.
I have done that few times, and it's worked fine, but this car didn't want to play nice.
I may try it again on the driver side, to try and save some time. That is, if I can motivate myself to go out to the garage

Looked like southern rust free stuff, that always makes things easier.

Same, every now and then I'll find a bolt that doesn't want to come out, but with a little help it comes right out. it's to be expected, seeing as I am the only person to remove any suspension part from this car sence it was built.

Just drove it. Holy mother ****ing **** does it need an alignment!!!!!
Going straight down the road, a bump will send the *** end all over the road. Scared the **** out of me a few times.
I hope i'll be able to get it in tomorow, and then maybe be able to drive it.

Haha, I can't wait to do mine this summer. My good autocross buddy owns a tire shop with an alignment rack, so we've got tools/lifts etc and we'll knock both our cars out in one swoop AND get alignments right there.

That's good.
I wasn't expecting this. Then again, the toe arms didn't go back any where close to where they were. lol
Deffinetly notice the bushings though, not nearly as stiff as I thought would be. Just makes the ride a little harsher.
We'll see tomorow if that is a good or bad thing.

Sorry to piggy-back on your thread, but I figured the last thing HT needed was a new trailing arm bushing thread...
For removal, I found out the hard way that you have to pound them out from the inside of the car toward the outside (easy enough).
I am having a really hard time getting the new bushings IN to the trailing arms. I started by just pounding them in with a hammer. The new ones will go in 1/4" and then begin to cockeye, and further hits will just cause them to pop out. Tried a big PVC cup as a driver, no luck. Tried lubing them and grinding a small chamfer, still no luck. I made a little clamp with two 2x4's and some 1/2" bolts and I am able to press it in further but they still get cockeyed and pop out under further persuasion.
I caved and ordered the Schley 65100 tool. Should be here end of the week. My concern is that I may encounter the same trouble even with the right tool. Has anyone experienced this and can you give me some input?

i removed the bushing from the inside of the car toward the outside. the problem with that is the tool arms are a little too far apart to grab securly onto the trailing arm. i had to hold the arms in place using a spring compressor.
the Schley You Tube video shows them both removing the old bushing and installing the new bushing from outside the car toward the inside of the car. definitely easier to set up the tool that way because the short end of the metal bar in the middle of the bushing points outward but not sure that's a good idea especially if the bushing outer shell or the hole in the trailing arm is tapered.
my old bushing was a pain to get out.
cleaned up the hole in the trailing arm with a Scotch Brite pad and some sandpaper and the new bushing pushed in from the outside with no problems.

i have a set of the ES bushings i was going to put in my '93 DX but i couldn't use this tool for that since it removes the metal bushing shell.

Totally forgot about this thread.
Yes you should clock the rubber bushings.
A year later the bushings are still doing great.
