tire moves but steering wheel doesn't WTF??? tie rods maybe ??
ok so i have been randomly hearing a light like i guess "Clanking" noise comeing from the front passanger side ... so i jacked up the car and checked the susp.... all good ... so i checked the brakes ... all good ...
So i move the tire from side to side and it moves about 1/2 inch either direction each time making a clanking noise again... the outer tie rod on the passanger side ... i was able to twist it with my hand and im not sure if that is a bad thing or not ... never have messed with steering ... ... now im not sure about this ... but im thinking they are shot ... anyone have any ideas ?????

are you sure the wheel isn't moving? could be the lock cylinder assembly. you know how your wheels locks in place.. if you move the tire while the wheel is locked it will make that clunking noise..
btw, the tire rod ball joints HAVE to move... if they're old and worn out like the grease has been out for a long time you could either replace them or fill the ball joints with grease and see if that fixes anything... otherwise, you replace them if the ball joint is bad..
could be a problem with the inner tie rods or the steering rack itself.. you could try adjusting it from the adjustment bolt.. it's a big one.. i think 17 or 19mm

Re: (civic_driver)
i know its not the lock cylinder ... i have messed with that before ... i know it is in the the steering somewhere ... either the rack or inner tie rod ... also the lil boots that cover them (inner tie rods) are busted on both side ... whats the real name of them ???

Hey you know, i was having a weird loud "cluunng" noise coming from my front drivers side wheel area. I put my car on a lift and didnt see anything strange but just yesterday i checked the bolts that connect my upper camber arms to the shock tower and sure enough, those bastards had worked loose so my camber arms were shifting back and forth thus causing that noise. Once i tightened them down, problem solved, now my ride is silent as a mouse. You might just want to check those, just my .02.
Oh, by the way i have an ej8, so im not sure if the eg's have those bolts in the same place, mine were about 5 inches down on each side of the front shock towers. I think they were 14mm.
