My neighbor got a 91 honda brand new. I thought it was really nice. And I have always like small cars even back in the 80's when everyone drove mustangs and camaros I had a fiero GT and a triumph spitfire.

I didn't have a car for about 5 years while going to college after I totaled my fiero. I finally needed a car and knew I wanted a civic or crx. I got a 93 civic si because I couldn't find a crx at the time. 4 years later and lots of money wasted here I am. I still love my car and love to autox it.

I'm just getting into the mazda which is fun to. Getting to learn about a whole new car and a knew setup. So I get to enjoy the fun of learning about a car all over again.

When it's done I'll probably add a MINI as my next weekend race car.

Ok, ill bite and try to keep it brief.

I have been interested in imports since about 95 or so. All of my buddies had hondas and such when 15.1 was fast!

Anyway. I got a 91 Infiniti G20 in 97 or 98 (I forget) and didnt have much money at the time to fix it up. It was lowered with intake, exhaust, rims and beat. I autox'd that car quite a bit. This car has handles. Is very stable at high speeds blah blah.

Anyway, about 2 years ago, I traded it for a brand new Yellow Nissan Xterra. Ended up off-roading it, rims, tv's, beat etc.... A few of my friends were still into their imports, continuing to work on Walter's drag hatch etc.

When it came time for me and my wife to buy a house, we needed to get some stuff off of our credit, so the Xterra was the first to go. I just brought it to a dealer and he paid what was owed so I could get out clean (tv and beat all came out though).

I actually bought my hatch (96 for 5k) a few weeks before I sold the xterra. That was back in Sept or Oct (I have a shitty memory when it comes to dates). I had initially planned on putting my tv and beat into the hatch, but when Walter starting showing my pictures of hatchs in the "jdm style" I changed my mind.

A few weeks on honda-tech and lots of other sites like Fowler's, FFsqaud, Merrit's, B-Troop, jdmhondaparts etc, I already had a mental wishlist of stuff I wanted.

Well I have had the car for about 10 months now, and the only thing left for me to do is drop in my motor Inlcuding the price of the car, I would say that I have a little over 15k into this damn thing!

I'm older than most here-an ancient 30 years old. I've been into cars all my life (I had a subscription to Motor Trend when I was in 3rd grade). Always read about musclecars, hotrods, exotics and vintage dragsters.
Well i've got you beat man! i'll be 36 in a month! It amazes me how young most people are on this board but it's all good.

I grew up in SoCal so that explains most of it. I was always into imports and I've had a sucesion of celicas, 280 z's RX7's etc. I moved out east with my family when i was 17 and upon graduating high school got my first really 'new' car. An 86 Toyota Corolla FX GTS hatchback. That car began my love of hatchbacks and twin cam engines.

Then I moved up to New York for about 5 years and didn't even own a car. I did the whole Urban Hipster 'Who needs a car?' thing for a while but then my sister bought an 'arrest me' red 92 Civic SI and I fell head over heels. I was living back in downtown DC by that point and working downtown so I really didn't 'NEED' a car but i always loved borrowing hers Then, four years ago she told me she wanted to sell it and get a Ford Explorer (big mistake in my opinion). $3,500 and it was MINE!

I figured it was the perfect city car, small, cheap, fun. Perfect for going to the beach or runs to Shoppers Food Wharehouse. Then, one evening as I surfed the web researching the care and feeding of aged Hondas I came across the Hybrid board and I havent been the same since.

$12,000 later I had created a truely killer beast and i'm more hooked than ever. My friends all think I'm completely insane and rag on me for 'not acting my age' (whatever the **** that means). "why dont you just buy a BMW or Porche if you want a fast car" is something I hear far too often. They just don't get it. I think the 5th gen hatchback is one of the sexiest cars ever built and the fact that you can build them to run rings around just about anything else on the road increases the apeal a thousand fold.

I have done all the work on the car myself and it has been the most tremendously rewarding experience I could ever imagine. Sure I could just buy something fast, I'm at the point in my life where that would be easy but where's the fun in that?

Peace, love and Hondas

Mike

^^^holy screen door of text, Batman!

Well, since it got bumped, I might as well add to it.

I needed a car that I could finance for 5 years, drive 30K/year, and never be upside down on. The only one that fit those requirements was an 00 Civic EX. It had 200K on it when I paid it off, and was always worth more than I owed on it.

As I neared 100K, then 200K miles on it, I began to realize how truly quality these cars are. Now, with 214K miles, this car has never left me stranded, and beyond a few squeaks and rattles, runs as good as the day I bought it with 7K miles back in 2002. Better actually, due to a few well-thought-out mods. I trust it enough that I just drove it 17 hours round trip to the Tail of the Dragon, then drove the Dragon 4x with it, plus the Cherohala Skyway with no problems. (shameless plug for link in my sig... 2010 H-T Tail of the Dragon meetup... details coming in a few months)

So, in 2004 when it was time to replace the 92 Dodge Dynasty that my wife brought to the marriage, the natural choice was an 80K mile 96 Accord EX-L Vtec, in black, with the OEM spoiler. We loved that car and drove the hell out of it until it was totaled by a drunk who hit it PARKED in front of the house at 3 AM.

So, we replaced that with a 75K mile 99 CRV EX-AWD. Not gonna lie, I've had a few problems with it, but most were due to neglect from previous owners, and a previous crash that was much worse than the carfax led me to believe. It's amazing in snow though, and great fun to drift through icy parking lots. And, it's very much just like working on an EK, except it's too high to lift with my normal jack.

Default Re: Tell Us Your Story: How Did You Get Into This Honda Stuff?

I was driving a 1985 Dodge Colt DL 4 dr I bought new in 1986. It was my very first brand new car when I came here from the Philippines. The only build I ever did to it was a set of Nitto ultrahigh performance tires that rubbed underneath everytime I made a full turn. Not in the know about proper car maintenance, the only service I ever did was oil change. After years of proper car care neglect, I blew the engine because the coolant dried, the transmission broke because never had it serviced nor t-oil changed, the battery died (the battery dies?) and when I did bring it to the dealer for repairs, it came out never the same again. Finally decided it was time for a new car. I opted for the 1991 Dodge Colt Turbo 4 door but the Mistu dealer didn't approve me due to lack of credit record but offered me a base model Galant. "No thanks!"

I turned to Honda because I've been hearing a lot about their products and a couple of my friends have them. I was attracted to the CRX but the dealer instead offered the Si hatchback for less insurance costs. I agreed. One thing though. I need to learn the manula transmission, hahahaha. My dad gave me lessons and in a week I was drivin it alone. Dad drove it from the dealer to home. We did not even test drove it at the dealer. Everything about the car spelled sports from the seats to the handling. The 108hp engine was great.

Then the tuner bug bit me. My first set up was wheels and tires, then came the air intake (RS Akimoto). Then came the MOMO steering wheel, Tokico shocks and ST springs with 1.5 inch lowering and anti-sway bars. Then came the Dynomax exhaust system. Then came a variety or Momo and Razo shift ***** and pedals. Then came the Greddy exhaust system, the RS Akimoto chip reprogram (illegal and non-smog passable) but it improved the power greatly. I was climbing 20%-50% angled hills in 4th gear with ease!

Then came the clutchmasters stage 1 clutch and a whole other accessories upgrade all throughout the 90s.

Then came that one rainy Monday morning drive to work in 1999. I was rear-ended by a Suzuki SUV and my Si hatch turned into a CRX. I was ok but the car was totalled. I thought my only hobby had ended. I was devastated upon learning that all the performance and accessories I spent totalling $17,000.00 were not covered by the insurance and they only paid me for the value of the car which was $4,700.00. Oh yeah, they paid for the 2-week old set of Yokohamas for $47.00 Hahahahaha I nearly went crazy.

After collecting the money from insurance and medical bills, I used it as a downpayment for a 2000 Civic EX 4 door which I drive to this day. The dealer tried to talk me into an LX but if I am to spend on an economy car I won't settle for any less. I'll get the top of the line for $16,000.00 please!

I did not use all the money for downpayment. I left some for a Clifford car alarm, basic CD/radio, speakers, sub and amplifier upgrade, lowering springs and shocks and tinting.

Then after a year, I got a hold of $5,000.00 and used it to buy a set of Volk Racing SE37-K and Yokohama ES100 tires.

The only other power upgrade I had done is an AEM short air intake. That's it since 2004 and I'm broke for any more car upgrades.

I do keep a wish list for:

Greddy SP2 Exhaust System, Neuspeed short shifter, headlight conversion, a lip and rear apron, reupholstery, DC headers and a remapping of the ECU.

For now I am looking into buying another shift **** and choosing between an NRG Type R titnanium ****, Razo RA120 in black or a Mugen in black.

Thank you.

Vindicator9000, that Dragon trip looked awesome and I'm definitely game to do it in 2010 sometime

Anyway, I was 17 at the time and was driving around a 2001 Chevy Cavalier Z24 for a while, until I totaled it one very snowy and icy night in my neighborhood, hit an electronic pedestrian crossing sign. After that I needed a new car... I knew I wanted to start getting into cars but I knew close to nothing about them at the time. I looked at eclipses, integras a few others but really didn't have any interest in Civics (I wish I could go back and pick up a nice GSR that I passed up, I was young(er) and dumb).
Found my black 98 EX, took it home. 108k miles at the time. This was April 2007.

Now has 160k, and other than some goofy noises and a so-so body (dents), it's not too shabby. Working on making it comfy and dead quiet inside, just to have a nice DD

Hell i'll ad to this too. I kind of just grew up around cars, my friend kevin's uncle was big on vw's in the 90's, first time i heard his system i was IN LOVE with bass, couldn't have enough. Helped out the best way a 7 year old could, learning everything. When i got into highschool I was bit by the honda bug. ALL my friends had honda's, even my girlfriends first car was a wrecked 89 dx hatch. but my parents said NO they aren't safe. so i settled for... a mini van? lol well in the mean time i threw a system in the van and rolled around in it, helping my friends work on their cars (two 87 corolla gts's, several mid sixties bugs, a 91 civic std with a mild build b16 in it and a 94 civic hatch with a cammed out d16z6) learning everything i could.
FINALY i bought a civic (89 std shell)last summer (of 08) it was a shell but i used the parts from my g/f's old civic to get it mostly together, then ended up trading it for a non running 88 std that i have turned into a mpfi swapped dx (title says std, but interior says dx). eventually i'd like to ad a 99-2000 si coupe, and maybe an eg si hatch, as well as a usdm itr to my collection, but i'm happy with my std for now.

I guess you can say ive been into Honda's my entire life

before i was born, my dad started his Honda career as a mechanic at the local steelership (1976). a couple years later i popped out (1978). for about the next 16 years my dad worked at the local Honda dealership...he would bring home all kinds of cool honda's, he bought and sold tons of them, buy them broke for cheap, rebuild them, sell them for more. so if we werent at the drag strip racing his Mopar's we were in the garage fixing the next honda.

when i was 14 we bought my first car. (1992) it was a 1983 Honda Civic S. bought it for $200 with a blown headgasket. legally i couldnt drive until my 15th birthday, so i had plenty of time to get the car road worthy. the day i got my license, the S was lowered on cut springs, sitting on Honda Optional 15" split five wheels (off an SI), Mugen Exhaust from an 86 SI, pacesetter header, hooked up with a boomin stereo, and lots of neon's lol

when i was 16 my dad finally got fed up with the scandilous upselling at the stealership and cashed in his retirement to start up his own Honda/Acura service shop. Now called Dietz Automotive. His business has been going strong for 15 years now...He is one of the only Honda Certified Master Techs in Idaho.

So yea, ive been around Honda's my entire life, have worked on them for more than half of my life, and i dont see it stopping anytime soon lol

Nice topic!

My two best friend's to this day, had an older cousin in his 20's who would pick us up in elementary school in his EPB Si, slammed, tuned, and never riced out. I learned at a young age that body kits and flare was not the way to go. The first time i looked under his hood and saw those gleaming race headers and red valve cover i fell in love with hondas. That was about 8 yrs ago and I got my first car a little after my 19th birthday this year, bought a 00' phantom grey pearl ej6 for $3.5k. I have gotten the exterior to where i want it to be, just like an em1 -- work in progress though currently saving for new coilovers, before i start attacking my engine bay

That EPB si influenced our little group, today we all drive tuners. the oldest of us has a boosted type-s (306whp), his younger bro with a monster scoob (308whp,360tq!!) and then me just getting started with the ej6 (stock motor)

So at about age 15 im sitting at home watching tv, espn or something, and my dad walks through the door with a tuner mag his buddy at work gave him for me to look at. his buddy had a 94 civic dx, nothing special, and it had caught my eye when he stopped by at one point. looking through the magazine i spotted a 91 civic sedan that had the jdm front end conversion, ITR swap, caged and ready for autocross. the look of the car was attracting to me, as well as the performance numbers that were listed. being just 15 i knew i had no money to have a car like that anytime soon, but i knew i had the means to get there. being my dad has been a mechanic for 30 years now and has build many drag cars (chevys) i had that need for power and speed in my blood.
i got the newspaper, looked around and found a blue 91 ex for sale, 1000 obo. went and looked at it, it didnt run, bought it cause my dad said it was a steal. sitting on steelies, cut springs, chrome fender mouldings and a chopped exhaust i knew i had a small project.... i just didnt have a running car yet. next day i wake up to the sounds of a loud vrooooooom in the side yard, my dad fixed the battery connections, adjusted the distributer and re-plugged the wires and it was running rather smoothly. just to my luck the previous owner did not know much about cars and just gave me this car w/ 80k on it w/ a straight body for 1k. sweet. i started buying parts for it, intake, header, exhaust, wheels, eibach springs, a nice stereo, jdm headlights. a year later it was stolen and stripped my sophomore year of HS. i bought it back, fixed it and all was good again. the summer of my junior year when i was saving up for either a itr swap, or a turbo kit, bad news. following a taxi w/ no tail lights puts me in a fender bender. car totaled. at that point i had a toyota truck as well, thought eff hondas i just want my truck but the honda bug crept back up on my going into my senior year and i started looking around again.
always wanting a newer si (em1), but cant afford it, i go to the next best thing, a ex coupe. i found my car for 2500, 165k on the motor, smoking. i buy it, ripped seats, broken hubcaps, cracked withshield, and smoky motor and from then on had plans to transform itinto a street machine. liking the em1 meant i loved the b16, so my first big ordeal with the car was a b16 swap i found, rebuilt and put in with help from my dad as a senior project. going from the z6 to the b16 was huge to me, i felt unstoppable. of course i had the exhaust, intake wheels springs and all the stuff that goes with it, but then i started looking around and the "JDM" look caught my eye. my car was changing yet again. having it stripped in my front yard helped the process, i needed new wheels, lips and exhaust. bought wheels, the front a rear lips, and a quiet exhaust, as compared to the megan drift spec. decided i was going to get serious and bought a set of coils, then completed my 2k suspension setup with lcas, asr, swaybar the whole nine yards. now i wanted more power... the stock b16 just wasnt cutting it anymore. did my homework and decided on a lsv setup to boost and that leads up to where i am now. 6 years in the making of the honda i have always wanted, fast, clean and my baby. now being 21 and in school progress has slowed down and maturity has brought forth new things. looking at buying a sti for a daily, and gutting my car for a 700hp turbo setup is my next step. i just cant wait to get done with school and contin ue on my cars path to success.

Well, im new to this place and i see i need to post in order to get my "Full Membership" -lol- so why not tell a pointless story....

at first i hated honda's because everyone you'd see with one hooked up per say was ratted the f*** out , which in an essence made them seem gay, not to mention the pathetic torque they put down(hence my sn). i got into tuner cars when i was about 14 and wanted a MR2 so so bad, finally got one a 91 with 140xxx on the odometer ran it dry out of oil and blew er up : ( lol i did basic mods intake , plug wires, etc but after the blowup good by mr2, next i got the car i fell in love with still to this day i wish i had it .. i purchased a 92 240sx from VA that was RHD converted with a SR20 in it, lets just say if you have a 4cyl putting 390 down and 370tq daily driven you need deep pockets in which i dont have.. so i d"cked around for a yr or so with that and ended up selling it for half the money i put into it.

i wanted a change and to save money so after that beast i got a yota pickup an 89 and lifted it , mud tires , the whole nine played around in the woods for a yr or so and then i rear ended a ford ranger lowerd about 2 months ago, flipped it over and totald it, f*ck it , it sucked to drive on the road anyways and i wanted something new.. this is where i started my Honda journey...

one of my friends ownd a hatch with a b18 in it and running like 6psi out of a precision turbo and raped me by like 3 cars in my 240 and i was like damn if i gotta get somthing other than a nissan i think its gonna be a honda, also another one of my frinends has a prelude h22 turbo that skeets out which i like, but what topped the cake is my girlfriend whom im pretty serious with and live with has a rsx-S and i really really like the way it drives and its stock ! so i figured maybe its time to give honda a go...

i found a 99 civic si on autotrader about 40mi from my house , 1 owner, adult driven, never smoked in and they had a blanket wrapped around the backseats and rubber covering all the stock floor matts, and NO KIDS! this thing is so clean it looks like its fresh outta the honda showroom.. it has a dcsports exhaust, eibach springs , tokico shocks and some decent rims, i could only spend 7500 and i got it for 7200 after test driving it i fell in love because of its smoothness, cleanlyness, and of course the raw vtec power(jk) lol, but for real i just wanted something reliable and that could get onto 95 without killing me... so here i am now at this site learning everything i can so its 2nd nature to me like nissans are, so dont herass me to much if i ask dumb questions i have a decent mechanical knowledge but not to extensive when it comes to hondas, if any of you got any tips and tricks to free up horsepower/tq without bolt ons and what not drop one my way otherwise see u in the posts nuccas

im was about 13-14 and my brother gave me this 83 prelude, was a huge peice of junk, had 300+k on it, smoked like crazy when you started it, but it was quick, or i thought it was lol... about a month later i relized it was going to cost about 10 times what its worth to make it nice again i got rid of it, about a year later i got a 93 accord dx seadan, was riding on cut no name coilovers and 17s, thing bouched so bad it got scary at times, and i could hardly get it out of my alley with out dragging everything under the car, then i found out it had a h22 in it, and while digging threw what came with it i found recipets for the engine totaly 9k... so i thought i was the fastest thing on the road till i got raped by a couple boosted civics.. after a while and a hole lot trouble i got rid of the car, and less then a year later i get my civic, 98 dx coupe auto ( i know its gay) but for the money it was one of the cleanest one i have seen all stock, somewhat of high miles 189k, but i didnt car, body was straight for the exception of some minor scratches, and 2 or 3 very tiny dings and interior was mint and stock for exception of a alipne deck that didnt work. 2 years, 2 accidents 1 my fault shes still going 201k on the clock, lowerd, gay rims lol and a stereo, black hoshing lights, egay grill, and 99-00 tails....
it slow but i love it.

always been a sportscar fantatic since i could drive.
started VW's because of my sphere of influence led me there.
found that 90's vws were kinda crapy.
sold them and bought an 88 Lude, loved it. clean, smooth, fun to drive right outta the box.
My highschool skateboard buddy's had swapped eg civics. and they led me to the darkside.
took ~180+lbs off my 4ws lude, and added dc headers, intake, exhust , suspension. .
then got a eg hatch, and it was all down hill from there!
I daily drive an mr2 now, but still have a place in my heart for hondas.

When I was 15 my parents moved to WV from Hawaii, so we bought a used car. 1998 Honda Civic. I fixed up anything wrong with it, then got my 1991 sedan as my first car. 16 years old now, I've rebuilt the motor and swapped it.

Holy fck paragraphs people!!!!

I honestly dont know how I got into the Honda game...
I was interested in Hondas but not that bad to where I wanted one. Then a friend of mine got a 5sp 1994 Accord, another friend got a 5sp 00 HX, girlfriend got a 99 coupe, and my little brother got a 1990 Si.
I got an MBZ190E as my first car, then I started reading up on Hondas and got really into it.
I really wanted a GSX/GST. I even test drove one but the IC blew off so I didnt buy it. Then I found out my cousin was selling his virgin hatch (hes the OG owner) for a decent price and I picked it up.

So here I am today, Ive had my 1999 Civic hatch for about 1 year and 6 months.

My mother has been driving civics exclusively since 1985 ('85 sedan, '94 LX SE, and '96 CX hatchback) While I was going to college mom's bought her current '96 hatch and gave me her old '94 sedan, automatic. At the time what I really wanted was a 5 speed MK3 Jetta GT (friends father had one at the time and I really liked it at the time, learned to drive stick between that and the same friend's mother's corolla) Second year at college I got to be good friends with a guy in my class that was always talking about hondas. His girlfriend (Civic_HatchSI)drove a '92 Si hatchback, and was very into hondas, (weird part was my buddy didn't have a licence at the time, his girlfriend did all the driving.) That winter a guy dad worked with was junking a '92 4 door, 5 speed and I found out about it, convinced dad to help me do an auto to manual swap (dad was a heavy equipment mechanic so labour wasn't an issue) paid $100 for everything I needed off the donor car, plus gave the guy my old automatic tranny and did the swap over march break in an unheated garage (this is in atlantic canda mind you, it was about 35 below, almost froze) took like a week, but we got the swap done. By this time my college buddy had really gotten me into hondas and a couple of months later his girlfriend decieded to do a JDM GS-R swap, so I was invited over to help, I had to work the first day of the swap (first day of a new job, which kind of sucked) but I still got to help out and learned a lot. It was also the first time i'd ever seen a B-series swap in person. Things moved pretty quick after that. I swapped a JDM D15B Vtec in my own civic a few months later, and completed several more D-series swap and another auto to manual swap, then a JDM B16A swap in a '93 CX. Did a rear disc swap on my own car. Front 'teg brake swap on someone elses. Christmas eve 2008 I bought a '93 Si hatchback in very rough shape for $900, object is a super clean ITR power hatch, now I just need the money to get me there.

Cliffs: Wanted a Jetta, got a civic instead because it was free, met some really cool people into hondas and got bitten by the honda bug.

Well I just joined H-T today, been trolling and researching for a long time however, and this seems like the perfect thread for my first post. Been into cars forever, when I got old enough to finally get my own car I was big into the muscle cars and drag racing, and was pretty much an import hater because quality imports are far and few between where I live. Finally turned 16 and bought an '87 S-10 and learned to drive a stick. Loved the truck wanted to put a 350 in there, but the rising gas prices made me re-think. Sold it and started looking for more fuel efficient, then one day a black '94 del Sol Si caught my eye, test drove it, fell in love with it, and bought it.

Loved Honda's ever since I drove my car home in '05. Now it's '09 and I'm finally getting done with college and still have no idea how I want to modify my del Sol. Any suggestions? haha

When I was a little kid, my mom had a 1989 Accord LX 5spd that the only problem I recall was the headlights because the wires would fray when they went up and down. Not the prettiest car, but ever since then I have associated them with being simple, reliable vehicles. We've had 3 Honda ATVs including my three wheeler that I learned how to operate a manual transmission on. My aunt has had two 3rd gen Integras. The one she has now has 185k miles or so and it's immaculate. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country.

The moment I first started wanting a Civic was when I was 15 and looking at vehicles in the classifieds and saw a black 5th gen hatchback. Right there, that is what I've wanted ever since. It was a Honda, and has sexy lines. I got my dad's old Bronco as my first car and gas prices were killing me, so I found a 4 door Civic 5spd. Ever since, I've just been obsessed with Hondas. I love how they're a little more refined in how they're assembled, but how the cars are so modular. So many parts from different models and trim levels can be swapped and engine swaps are so simple.
