swapped d16z6 motor in del sol, best tranny for boost
Right now I have my d15b7 tranny on the z6, and i know that there are a lot better tranny's for this motor that are stronger and have shorter gearing. i have been hearing 92-00 civic ex tranny or 92-95 si tranny. One that is better than another? There is also a stage 2 clutch on this motor..so the best clutch and tranny pairing would be awesome.
92-95 si tranny would be a Civic si i assume? Oh yea..when I have everything running correctly, I will be boosting the motor. Already have the turbo setup..pretty much ready to run. Thanks. Need it to be hydro tranny too!

i believe 96-00 ex/si trannys are the best.
don't take my word for it. just what i read.
edit: btw, i'm sure you can find plenty of information about this by searching.

depends on your set up and what you want out of the car. also are you asking what is the strongest transmission or what will give you the most performance out of your engine.

if the motor isnt making more then 200-220 hp i recommend any ex 96-00 transmission. if any more you could get away with longer gears and a dx transmission.96-00 has steel shift forks and 92-95 has aluminum so the 96-00 are alil stronger.

the reason i say this is if the OP would not know this and if he would go out and buy a 99-00 si tranny USDM he'd be F'd
You could also go D series motor and B series tranny if you can get the adapter plate fabbed up or find one but the EX tranny would be the best choice

You basically want the tranny that came with the y8. Those have the steel shift forks and shorter gearing.

I was thinking about y8. Is there any fabbing that would need to happen with this tranny? As in, from the tranny mounts? Thanks guys. I have been looking, but i don't know what each look like or how they would fit...so its easier just to hear the majority and what they think..thanks again.

As for what tranny? Z6 or Y8, they're both basically geared the same, big bearing case etc. Z6 has aluminum forks (I've only personally seen one of these with a broken fork) Y8 has steel forks that bend and wear (every single Y7/Y8 tranny I've pulled apart the 3rd/4th fork was worn past the service limit, I've never seen wear issues with aluminum forks) basically pick your poison, steel forks aren't really necessarily better than aluminum, they just fail in different ways.
