surging idle (i've tried almost everything)
Hey guys, I did a search, but everyone is telling everyone the same damn thing over and over.
Before the surging idle: Replaced cylinder head, headgasket, intake mani gasket, timing belt/tensioner, installed a crower stage 1 camshaft, and an adjustable cam gear.
After install: had a series of install-related problems, all were fixed but one, a damn surging idle.
Step I've taken:
Cleaned/replaced IACV
Cleaned/replaced FITV
Bled Coolant
Replaced o2 sensor
Cleaned air filter (CAI)
Shot carb cleaner through my TB while car was running to make sure all that stuff was clean
adjusted the idle via the idle adjustment screw <--- brought idle from 1-1500 to 1-1200 rpms (improvement)
thanks in advance guys

Have you shot carhb cleaner around the intake gasket area with the engine running? The idea is to see if idle goes up when carb cleaner hits a ceratin spot, which indicates a leaking intake manifold gasket.

I've had my civic do this same thing and was brought to a Honda performance shop. One of their shop cars has the same issue but does away after like 2 minutes or the car is warm. They couldnt find anything wrong and said it was not hurting the car. I know its not suppose to do that but if its not hurting the car, I'd say your ok.

yeah i figure as much. it got a lot better when i turned the idle screw shut, but it still does it. when it went from 1-1500 it bugged the **** out of me because my car is loud, but it doesnt really bother me anymore, its just the fact that something is effed and i can't figure it out now, i HATE being stumped . I'm sure a lot of people on this site like their car to run 100% perfect.

if your iacv is working correctly then all you are looking for is a vacuum leak.
if you haven't thought to yet, pull the plug on the iacv while idling to see if there is any change. if there is none, you still have an iacv issue to resolve.
vacuum leak tips: i like brake parts cleaner in general for every use i can find... so i spray it strategically around the IM area, and anything else that uses vacuum. idle will increase if you spray an idle leak (it pulls cleaner into the manifold and burns it raising the idle...) you can also pinch vac. hoses with your fingers listening for change.
be meticulous, you'll find the source.

My car does the same thing and it doesn't bother me anymore, but people who ride in my car knock it so bad. Mine revs from 1000-1500 consistently. I hate the fact that I can't figure out how to fix it. I've had it plugged into my Snap-On Modis and everything is within correct specs. Its not throwing a code and then I had my dad look at it, who I refuse to ask for help unless I really absolutely need it, (hes an ASE certified mechanic with 25+ years of experience,) and he cant figure it out either. I'm replacing the throttle body to see if that does anything. I'm still waiting on my GD Hondata S300 P28, ( ,) so maybe when that comes in it will show me something I missed on the Modis. I'll keep this updated.
