Miles 0-150,000 were pretty much trouble free. Miles 225,000 - 300,000 saw a lot of problems. Every single electrical motor basically wore down (alternator, starter, blower fan, fuel pump). The axles went, tranny lost 5th gear, seat hingle broke, CV boots ripped, etc. I wouldn't buy a car for free over 225,000 even if it's a Honda.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yeah....really kinda depends on the situation.

I picked up a '97 Tercel for 500 bux from a friend that has 225k on it and burns some oil.

I don't really care about the oil - guessing it's blow-by b/c I'm not low on power - runs fine 'n all - but I put like 500 more into it with new brakes all around, vacuum/charged AC system, etc. - now it runs like a top 'cept leaking a bit of coolant out of the top of the rad (and the oil burning issue).

Depends on what you need it for. If it's a commuter, I'd say sounds good if you pick up a B7 or something (and they're a dime a dozen) - but you got ur heart set on a B16 and all that other happy horse-**** - sounds like you just want a daily - I'd stay clear if that's the case.

Especially when the motor's headed out the door.

msn=onemkb@hotmail.com

and that is how i got it , the picture was taken when i rolled it off the car carrier, the original owner drove it to and from work approx 15 miles for 10 years, the passenger seat looks like it has never been sat in.

the key to getting a car at a good price is having the money in hand, and just beating everyone else to it, i literally see steals like that all the time, it's just a race honestly.

I'd keep looking, My brothers 92 LX has high miles on the car, but only like 150k on the motor, no rust, a few dents, and he paid $800 for it? Hell mine had a z6 swap, header, full stainless exhaust, coilovers, cf hood and more, I paid $1300. I just sold a perfect beater for $350 last week

150k is not low mileage per se but still there's plenty of life on it because it's a Honda. In general, you could run a 150k mile Honda without having issues. Once you get over 225k, IMO that's when it'll be more likely to have intolerable problems.

Just be patient. I'm pulling my hair out looking for a certain car *cough*240sx*cough* and almost bought one that was a p.o.s just because.

well since u start a thread and ask for everyone's advice and yet you just defend the little car to no end...i say you should just buy it and spend hundreds of dollars and countless hours fixing all the things that are wrong and will go wrong with it

Do your self a favor and keep looking. Let people know your looking, like your grandparents, friends of your parents or church people. Basically you want the word out to people with a soft spot for a kid looking for his 1st car. You might get a real good deal that way on a reliable car. Thats how I found my 1st car 20 something years ago. Take my advise it'll work.

I had a 1969 VW bug for my 1st car. I bought it for $200 from a lady who worked with my grandmother. Thats's probably equal to $800 in todays money but the VW wasn't full of rust with a million miles on it either. The only reason I stopped driving that car at all is because it was rear ended by a drunk driver and totalled.
