im guessing a cheap ebay one right? my friend has one and it bends a little if you shift hard, get a DC sports, i like mine its really smooth and short, not to mention strong. i think its better on your tranny too, get the poly bushings for the shifter as well i hear they help a lot

use the search...

I'm not trying to be a d!ck but....
How in gods name did it break... I never understood this... If my shifter was made of a dowel rod (wood) I wouldn't break it... why would you be compelled to put that much force on a part regardless of whether it SHOULD or SHOULDN'T break...

For it to break you'd have to be putting considerable force after it was already in gear... why?

Pulling your shifter harder don't make you or your shifts any faster... just my .02

Never had a problem with my DC Sports short shifter. It lasted me a little over a year before I sold it to CzanSOHC. I went back to the stock shifter with Prothane shifter bushings. Longer throws but I can shift just as fast.

Skunk2 works well for me.

I think the problem is that since the shifts are crisper, people like to exagerrate the shift and punch it into gear. There's no real need to do that, since along with breaking shifters you'll be messing up synchros as well.

i've heard lots of stories of ppl breaking short shifters, but what i don't get is how someone can break a piece of medal with their on strength. are those short shifters like hollow on the inside or something?

Thats affrimative... ran from the cops comming home from Pacific raceways (he had just ran his fastest time ever, 13.1) went down a hill and tried to make a 90-degree turn while downshifting into 2nd the wheels locked up, he started sliding and wedged the front end under a guardrail.

there has to be more to it than that...

Possibley the ones that are breaking are made straight then machine bent... this can SERIOUSLY stress metal making it EASIER to snap than wood...

Like I said though I can all but guarantee I could shift my car with a 1.5" dowel rod... and NEVER break it.

no they dont break at the bend. they break just above the ball. the cheapy shifters are made from cast aluminum which is hard but brittle. you just have the most leverage at that spot in the shifter.
