Default Snapped my short shifter at the track last night, pic

First run of the night, grabbed 4th hard and shif **** came off in my hand. Ran the rest of the night with it broken. 2 in the morning had it in the shop and the new shifter back in. Was actually a really fun night anyways.

And for those who remember my really bad times last week and horrible 60 ft times this is what I did on the first run breaking the shifter.

(Slip is in car so don't remember exact times)
60ft: 2.6xxx
1/4: 16.1xxx

Yup, and none of us had any electrical tape or anything to tape it up so it wasn't sharp. Managed to not cut myself though so its ok.

Yeah, I was hittin the same 60ft times last week. Still needs a lot of improvement. Replaced my Injen short ram with a CAI and that was the only difference. Will be posting pics of the CAI later. Was a cheap ebay one that was surprisingly high quality.

The shifter was a cheapy. Ebay special, advertised as Titanium but of course wasn't. I think it is aluminum. Really didn't think I would break a cheap one so I bought it anyways, now I know.

dude those 60's are horrible

like just drop it at 2200 and work with that

wheelspin go lower, bogging go higher.

ride the clutch Papadikis...lol

Don't drop the clutch unless you're on grippy tires...just ride her through from about 4 or 5 grand. Go to some isolated area and practice. You want minimal amount of wheel spin.

I have always dropped the clutch, and as long as you are at the proper RPM, you can get good 60 foots. I have managed 2.2s on shitty Kumho 712s.

I've got Kumho Ecsta's on mine. Just need some practice. Had the car less than 2 months and pretty much baby it everywhere except the track.

I'm not trying to be a d!ck but....

How in gods name did it break... I never understood this... If my shifter was made of a dowel rod (wood) I wouldn't break it... why would you be compelled to put that much force on a part regardless of whether it SHOULD or SHOULDN'T break...

For it to break you'd have to be putting considerable force after it was already in gear... why?

Pulling your shifter harder don't make you or your shifts any faster... just my .02

to the original poster u need some serious work on the launching. i suggest u stay off the track altogether cause 89 civic 4 doors run those kinda times with better 60s than u pulled.

Ya that's about right... I actually try to maintain CONTROL over ALL my actions while driving in ANY conditions much less when I'm trying to get the best operation out of my car.

I've also seen a few posts here and there about DC's also breakin' once and a while...which goes to show, you can even buy a "name" brand and can still break.

I'm just hoping its the driver that determines whether a shifter breaks...I want to buy some cheapo short shifter on my VX tranny, just to have a little bit of fun b4 I get a swap in a year or two...I don't like hearing you fellas breakin' your ****!!

when you're drivin', pretend you are bangin' some chic - be firm, but don't break the beeatch!!

OK, bad analogy....don't listen to me...

Yeah, um my adrenalin only gets that high when im running away from cops after I rob a bank or something - not while im at the track. You shouldnt be slamming your poor little shifter like that.
