Default rubber seals (trunk, targa top, etc.) in del sol

My targa top and my trunk currently leak pretty good. So I have done a bit of searching on the subject and I found a thread on another site stating that I can take some silicon spray lubricant to the rubber every month to recondition it and this may solve my problem...

What do you guys think about this? Have any of you done this or heard of it being done? It would sure be cheaper than replacing the rubber seals...

UPDATE!!! trunk leaks still but not because of the weather stripping, scroll down and please please help me out there has to be someone out there that is experiencing the same problems that i am having

This is what I would do:
-Check each of the rubber/foam seals in the areas that are leaking.
-Check areas that are rusty
-Reseal the ones that just came up but are still good.
-Replace any that are brittle, torn or cracked.
You need to reapply them with an adhesive that also acts as a sealant, not just any old adhesive.

I've definitely got cracking going on in the rubber seals in both the trunk and the targa top so I think I'm going to replace everything all the way around. I did try the silicon lubricant out and it didn't work. The trunk still leaks. I think if I replace the 4 peices around the top and the one peice in the trunk it will solve my problems. The car is rust free so I know that's not the problem. Anyways thanks for the input guys.

I went through the same thing. I ended up pricing to get all of it replaced, you're looking at about $300 if you install it yourself. The 1993 del sol chassis is horrible. Sell it to someone who doesn't know better and get yourself a 95-97 del sol.

really? can you tell me the difference between the two? i would love to know. I did just price out all 4 peices for around the targa top on majestic honda and it came to almost 500 dollars. kinda steep but ill do it. that del sol is my baby.

Hondapartsdeals.com may be cheaper, and they offer fast shipping. THey do have a handling/shipping fee obviously.

The silicone will only act as a seal if the foam rubber isn't hardened too much. It will also have no effect if the adhesive under it is torn from the chassis.

Exactly what I was saying. You need to use an adhesive that is also a sealant. Not sure which particular one, but I will tell you which one I bought if I can find the tube when I get home.

bump to the top, still having issues with my trunk leaking. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the rubber seals. What I am experiencing is this...
there is a spot in the body of the car on the right side, i don't know all the technically terms so bear with me here. It is near the rear window where the water should just run off to the ground beside the rubber seals. I'm pretty sure that the water is getting in through that hole. It runs down and pops out in the trunk right where the strut is bolted to the body.

can anybody help me out? is there anyone out there that had the same problem?
help me fix this please!!

Well I got that nasty trunk leak fixed in my del sol. Turns out the clips had gone bad and just needed to be replaced.
