Default report transmission swap to DMV?

My uncle just told my parents that you have to report to the DMV if you change your car from automatic to manual. Supposedly has to do with the fact my car is registered as an automatic but it's now a manual. Is it true that I need to tell them? I checked the DMV website but I had no idea what to type in the get the information I needed. "transmission conversion" and "transmission swap" didn't get me anything useful.

I've wondered the same since I did my auto to manual conversion a few months back now. I don't think it matters... seems ANYWHERE I type in my VIN, they ASK me whether it's auto or manual anyways. Insurance, KBB, anything. In FL here, they could give 2 craps.

VIN would normally (at least in Hondas) actually denote the transmission that comes stock in your car.

I have a replacement bumper on my '98 and since I can read the VIN sticker I can tell it came from an auto.

I'd just call them up and ask about it.

every now and then i will be running emissions on a car at work (isn't always a honda) and in the computer it will come up Automatic even though it is clearly a stick...i click continue and go on about my business, never had a problem i don't think it really matters, i guess it would be the same principal as swapping in a b18 or something into a car that originally was a 1.5 liter...don't ask don't tell? haha
