rebuilding D16y8 shortblock with z6 PARTS Quick help
So My D16y8 harmonic pully failed, ate my keyway walls and KEY to ****. shifted my timing belt lower pully and caused some shredding on my timing belt and resulted in an engine knock.
After taking off the harmonic pully that was wobbling because the bolt came loose and destroyed everything I got to the phone.
So after calling every scrap yard in my area I clearly CANNOT find a complete z6 short block anywhere so I could bolt it right up .
I already KNOW z6 blocks and parts work with y8 heads.. and z6 crankshafts have better/more oiling ports.
I also know every part in the z6 block is totaly the same in sizes and surfaces being totally interhchangable.
I know about the sensor being needed if i go with a z6 crank and it has been EXPLAINed already..
what I'm asking is, which parts Would I need to rebuild my current block.
Since I called every scrap yard there is and there just inst a d16z6 block so heres my option now.
REBUILD the y8 block with z6 parts.
i called honda and scrap yards and came up with these prices for these parts which ima individually obtain over the next week. What i need to know is how much are rod bearings roughly and is there anymore parts to this i would need? besides gaskets.
used d16z6 crankshaft ------- $?? (over 1 grand from honda NEW.. **** that.)
used d16y8 harmonic pully ------- $75 (scrap yard) $275 from honda new.
New d16y8 key ------- ------- $2 oem from honda i already have this
New d16y8 rod bearings ------- $??
New d16y8 head gasket ------- $100 i already have this oem from honda
New d16y8 timing belt ------- $76 oem from honda i already have this.
New d16z6 oil pump ------- $176, should i pick this up to keep the oiling flow good for for the z6 crank?> cause the y8 pump wont produce enough oil for the extra holes.
LMK if anything else is needed.
I assume my y8 pistons and rods are still in working good condition.

Re: rebuilding D16y8 shortblock with z6 PARTS Quick help
my advise, buy a zc sohc engine its the same as z6 but different Specs. get them off websites for problaly cheaper than all the parts you listed + low KMS.
if you know someone who works with a tig welder get them to weld your crank slot up to fit the key and get the bolt hole retapped and it should be good to go.
