oil light stays on at start up.
Hi Honda tech. Im having an issue with my oil light. When my car is cold and i start it up my oil light will stay on for a few seconds. Even after all the dash lights go out. My car burns a bit of oil but im always regulating it.
could it be the oil pump?

Change the pressure sensor. If that still happens, possibly the pump not pumping enough oil when it's cold, because it's thicker, it is harder to pump as much as when it is warm/thinner. So change the pump.

uhhh, 20w-50 is TOO thick. and put the emphasis on TOO.
you need to switch to 10w-30 at the least and hope you didn't starve your valve train

10w-30 when it's hot, 5w-30 when its cold out.
Yea, the oil you are using is wayyyyyyyyy to thick.
Change asap before u blow a rod bearing

Drain that ****ing oil out before you really cause some damage.
Thick oil is going to be quite hard for that pump to move around when it's cold.
I run 5w30 year round, no matter the temp.

Re: oil light stays on at start up.
I know alot of people run thicker oil to compensate for leaky valve rings and seals. The thicker oil burns/leaks slower as it has a harder time getting into those little spaces. This is fine for older, larger engines but for small foreign engines, it is not a good idea as the clearances are much tighter and will not receive adequate lubrication using a high-weight oil. If it were a 302 or any other big honking v8 you'd be fine.

ha, i used to run gear oil(thicker than 20-50) in my dodge shadow cuz it had a bad leak at the end of the cam. ended up trashing the engine because of this..deff get that stuff out with the quickness.

I've seen people do similar with lebarons (with a mitsubishi v6, same as in the 3000gt) to prevent tapping valvetrains. The most I've seen used is 20-50 though.
