Default New Axle, Grinding Noise?

Hello HT. I recently found out that my passenger side axle had a torn boot so I just finished replacing it. I read the write up here on HT and had a job well done. As I started it driving it, I noticed a "grinding" noise or as if two objects were constantly rubbing against each other. I didn't torque down the axle bolt down to spec. I just tightened it down with a breaker bar. Is it too tight? Does it need lubricant? Maybe my rotor or pads are rubbing? Any ideas what it could be?

Edit: Car is a 1999 EK hatch with a B18C1. (Yes, i got GSR axles for it).

it's fully seated right ? i'd torque that axel nut tight as *** and make sure you spike the nut. it never hurts to grease the spline and i'm sure you rememberd to fill the trans up again. Where did you get the axel from and yes it could be the dust sheild.

@bswapped93 I remember 6 months ago i kept hearing this awful loud grinding noise coming from the front of my car every time it moved. But by the nature of the noise I could tell it had to be something with the wheels, because it sped up when the car sped up, and vice versa. So eventually i took of the front tires, and voila, the brake shield had rusted all the way through and was just sitting inside the rim, and every time i drove it would grind around in there. I'm lucky it didn't cut any brake lines.

Yeah, it's in there all the way. I found out what the issue was. When I was taking off the axle, I had someone pull on the rotor so it would be out of the way. Turns out the dust cover bent a little and it was rubbing on the rotor lol. Problem solved

What's the point of spiking the nut? I forgot to do that, but if it's really important then i'll take care of it

The toruqe spec for the axel nut is 131,ftlbs and spiking it prevents it from wiggling loose due to vibration etc over time. I'd really reccomend this if you didn't torque it to spec i always do it no matter what brand of car i'm working on.
