Need advice on increasing HP - 95 Civic
I'm new to the forums and I need some advice. I have a painfully slow car (It's a 95 Civic DX coupe) and I want to know some ways to increase the HP.
Before you flame me, please consider that I'm not looking to heavily mod the car or turn it into some 10 second beast. I just want a few ways to increase the performance so I can get a little more kick out of it.
Thanks
KM

for starters you should try to make the engine breathe better, so Intake, Headers(unless you plan on going Turbo then dont bother buyin one), Exhaust, and/or Sparkplugs and wires..

Tha 95 DX weighs about 2400 lbs... You could strip tha trunk and back seats for a few lbs... Every 100 lbs is about .1 off your 1/4... And you can feel the difference... Pull out tha powersteering... That will free up about 4hp... Go to ebay get a 20 dollar shortram, a nice full exhaust system... Advance the timing 2 degrees... Probably the best and cheapest thing you can do is lose weight... That improves your acceleration, stoping, turning... Hope that helps...

major problem with the DX, the engine well, blows. If you think your semi handy, consider a mini me swap. Probally the best bang for your buck without going with n2o.
Basicly, a mini me swap, you take off your head, and you put a d16z6 head on there, and with a thinner head gasket, you can get about 135 crank hp, where the normal d16z6 only has 125, and yours has 105.
If your looking at spending a little more cash, look at buying a LS engine and tranny. It is a very easy swap (no wiring) and you can find ls's for as cheap as 1200 and at most 2000.
B16 could be another route. Less trq then a LS engine, but more peak hp. You can find them for around 2000-2300. Pretty easy swap, you will only need to run 2 or 3 wires.

Re: (asmallsol)
if you feel up to it, the best way to make a little more power on your engine will be to buy someones used homemade turbo set up or used greddy kit. both can be had for about 1000 or even less sometimes. if you were to spend say 150 on an intake and 250 on a header, you will gain about 5hp or so. for about grand you could gain 40 or so hp and then get an exhaust(at the same time would be best) and you will see another 10 hp or so easily.

Wrong! How do I know? I'm the mini me guru!
Mini me's are a waste of time. The problem with the DX engine is the transmission. You can get a better result with an EX transmission and an upgraded camshaft than you ever could with a mini me.
