My stock exhaust started rattling last night.. I dont know what caused it. When i get ready to start moving and give a little rev, the thing over the catalytic converter rattles. This ever happened to anyone else, and what can i do to fix it? Thanks

Mine does too, sounds so Dirty.

Im getting a catback soon, and taking off the heat shields.

will everything still work right if i take off that heat shield? I tried but couldnt un-bolt it... but i can try harder if it doesnt mess anything up or make it louder

maybe you got a rock inbetween the heatshield and the cat. unbolt the shield and see.

does anybody this wierd sound coming from the exhuast?....like popping....especially just after parking your car?....mine is very annoying

I think my rattling on my civic is the cat going out. It sounds like a marble in a tin can. Ting-ting-ding-ting! Oh, it drives me nuts everyone morning!

This used to happen to my car and I sold that but I have NO idea what the problem was...seemed like a fuel problem or maybe a timing problem...im not too sure cuz I sold it right after it started happening. Ask the gurus on the sight...they would probably know .

try removing your heatsheild for your cat. thats what happen to me. and i found out that i cracked my heatshield. but ever since then ive goten a hi flow, but now it sounds different. thats a different story.

From the heat. The metal expands when hot. Goes back to normal as it cools.

Mine does this too, I believe it's the heat-shield. I wish I could take it off but I'm up at school now. I'm going home next weekend to work on her, I'll let you know if I fixed it.

check ur bolts if they are loose.

Go to a exhaust shop sometimes a little tack weld can fix a rattling heat shield, or mayne even removing it. But it might cause your carpet to scorch a little under hard driving.

Normal....the metal is expanding and contracting....annoying though

I had the same problem on my 98 civic. Some people told me to change the gaskets... that didnt work... others told me to check the heat shield... that wasnt it. I remembered my friends Si had the same problem so I asked him. He said check the exhaust resonator... took it in to an exhaust shop and they swapped in a new one *BAM* no more annoying rattling. I guess there was a small crack around the old resonator that caused it.

NOTE: The rattling from my exhaust came from the middle and could be heard when u are slowing down or at about 1-1.5k rpm.
