Mil-spec harness issues!!!
ok i just finished up my mil spec harness in my eg hatch. Now when i hook up the ecu it gets code six, and a solid (0) code. can someone help me out with all the grounds. I have the transmission grounded, and thats it. i moved the ground that usually is on the thermostat housing inside the car, is that a problem?? No valve cover ground. I have no spark, and the injectors dont work. I am pretty sure it is a ground problem just not sure how to go about fixing it. Should i just run a few grounds from the motor to the chasis/frame of the car?? just for looking heres a pic of the engine bay what do u think??? THanks ahead of time. ohh yeah i keep getting a code 6 also is this due to the lack of ground????

Re: Mil-spec harness issues!!!
Thanks. I relocated those grounds inside the car, I removed the dash and on passenger side, assuming where the right hand drive steering column is mounted, on that. I only have one ground on the engine right now. Do I need one on the thermostat housing.

So that's y I'm not getting spark or fuel through injectors? Those wires have to be grounded to the engine? Thamks again guys!!!!

Re: Mil-spec harness issues!!!
As far as engine grounds go you will want a ground going to almost every part of the engine minuse the valve cover. This means starter, head, block, trans they do not have to be all individual they just need to tie all these metal components together and to the chassis. But i dont think insufficent grounding is going to be your amin problem. I myself would sit down and ringout the harness end to end. Take your voltmeter and a ecu pinout and ring it out end to end to be sure there are no wiring mistakes.

Re: Mil-spec harness issues!!!
Thanks thread jacker, but when I did the harness that's exactly what I did for every wire. My cel is giving me a code 0, which I have read is possibly a ground issue. The only ohter thing I can think of it. When I did the injector resistors, I soldered the resistors to individual wires, then on the other end that goes to chasis harness I soldered them all together, then connected the yellow and black wire to that. Any isses doing that? Just imagine 4 wires coming into 4 resistors through the resistors to one ground wire. If u look at the clip that's what they do in the clip

also keep in mind with these grounds they will need to be on solid surface not on fresh paint as that will prevent it from grounding.
but very nice harness
i'm trying to find a way to do mine
how big of a pain is that? and is that the only plug you do then the engine is ready to be pulled?

Re: Mil-spec harness issues!!!
my thought too. you may not have any grounds due to thick paint. needs to be bare metal to bare metal...
and yes to the thermostat ground - needs to be there.
