LS or SI

Re: LS or SI (B18-T)
I used to drive a GS-R, and now I have an EG with a B18B turbo, as much as I thought I loved that old engine(B18C1), I'd take the LS anyday over it. The B16 will take 93(91 in some places???) octane, which is about $1.45 here, whereas the B18B takes 87, which is 1.25 a gallon. It adds up. If I were you I'd go B18B with a VTEC tranny. For what you say youre going to do with the car, it is the more practical choice.

B18A, definately, it will pull on the B16A, ,the B16 may start to fetch on the top end, but it wont win, and like everyone else has already said, turbo that LS motor, on 8-9 psi, you will be a happy owner of a high 12 second car......with only those two mods.

Hmmm i hear everyone saying toss a vtec head on a the 1.8 block. How about tossing a b20 2.0 liter block on the head of a b16???? My vote goes for the b16.
b16head+b20 block+turbo=something other than slow
b16head+b20 block+turbo=something other than slow

Re: LS or SI (RIPDC2)
I voted LS... Torque is definitely good. However, the B16A/2 IMO is a better candidate for turbo. It's near-perfect RS ratio gives it an edge over the other B-series motors.

Re: LS or SI (RIPDC2)
I am also having the same desision. My engine blew up a week ago and I am trying to find the right combonation. Also the information I got was 3k for ls and 5.5k for the b16a. The 2.5k in other mods should beat the b16a. That is my opinion.

for all of those who say that they have a B16A and thay can run on an B18A any day of the week, were the motors in the same car driven by the same driver against a clock? didn't think so...

Re: LS or SI
since it will be a DD i say LS. it's a cheaper swap, the tall gears and low-end torque will be better on the highway since you not be in high revs very often. plus if you get power hungry down the road you can slap a turbo kit on and be rollin with 250 at the wheel for cheap

Re: LS or SI
You know you guys just opened a thread that is almost 8 years old... And as far as the vote I had a stock 94 LS auto and I raced a 99 SI with intake and exhaust and it was dead even. LS boosted is the way to go. NO WAY will a B16 beat a LS sock for stock.

Yeah, I wish fuel was still that cheap. But on the bright side atleast it hasn't jumped back to 4$ a gallon, atleast not around here anyways. I'll take the current average of $2.60 over 4$ a gallon any day of the week.
