Car: 2000 Civic EX with ABS

Whenever i drive and press the brakes lightly just to slow down my speed there is knocking noise coming from my driver's side wheel well.

I just changed the driveshaft recently, it made the noise before and after if it matters. I thought it might be the ABS sensor, so i unbolted it and just zip tied it to the side to see if i still get a knocking. Once i drove it kept doing the knocking/clunking sound like something is loose. So i put the abs sensor, the noise continues. Today i took apart my driver's side brake, took the caliper and and pads off, everything is in check, nothing was loose, brake pads are brand new from Honda, everything is pretty new and the car is maintained mint.

What could this be, i've ruled out wheel bearing since that's not the type of noise it makes, plus why would it only make it when i touch on the brake pedal lightly?

When i press the brake more firm (usually when coming to a complete stop) there is no noise.

sure it's not from the rears? Try pulling the ebrake handle gently and see if it does it. I've heard many a cars make noise like this from the drums

E brake functions 100%, it's definitely the front driver's side. I can hear it loud and clear when driving by a wall slowly with my window down.

That driver's front rotor might be warped. Get a new one.

check your axles... if you've recently replaced them with rebuilt axles. I'd ask where you bought them what types of policies do they honor. Most are cool about it and will swap them out on the spot if they were only used within a reasonable time.

It's most likely your axles... I had the same issue on my 95 Civic but mine was on the passenger side, replaced the axle and then everything was fine....

i've never really heard of rotors making this noise, but they will vibrate like hell during braking when they are warped.

exactly my thought, check your axles again.

i have the same problem. but im leaning more towards the tie rod or LCA bushings. Ive changed brakes, rotors, and axles along the way and it doesnt go away. it could also be something with the steering rack

I have the same noise i think mine is the cv joint (axle).

did you check the tie rods and the ball joints. Also make sure the cv shaft is all the way into the transmission.

check your upper and lower ball joints had same problem

Thanks for all the suggestions, it turns out that the backing plate that's supposed to be glued to the brake pad, wasn't glued on, therefore during light braking it vibrated and made the clunking sound.

im going to have to say your axle... mine did the same thing.. when i braked i heard and kinda felt grinding and somewhat knocking.... it turned out to be the passenger axle... the boot was like ripped apart and u could see the bearings and no grease was left in there... changed it out and problem gone. just check them out

edit:: nvm lol you already fixed the problem gj

Are you sure you got the 32mm axle nut nice and tight? Also, check the wheel bearing by hacking the car up and wiggling the top and bottom of the wheel in and out, it shouldn't move at all.

a shake while braking isn't always a warped rotor... it could be a tie rod bushing.
