Default Is idle adjustment screw bad for my engine?

I have a 2000 Si, B18C1 block, stock head. My idle was too low with the new ecu I got (P72/obd1 conversion harness), and the car would die on me, especially if I had the headlights on. It wasn't as low with my stock ecu. I turned up the idle screw so now it idles at 1000, which is out of spec but at least it runs now. My friend told me it was not good to adjust that screw because the throttle position sensor thinks the throttle plate is in a different spot than where I now put it and will miss calculate the air fuel mixture. He says idle is controlled by the ecu. If that is true, I have a crome tuned chip so then could I have the idle tweaked? Otherwise I will just leave the idle screw right where I put it for now. Any advice?

i wouldnt think it would be bad. the tps sensor goes off of what position the throttle body plate is actually sitting at. adjust it a little bit more back down to around 800 ish though.

What is the downside of having idle at 1000? Bad gas mileage, excessive heat? I could go to 800 but not sure if it will idle right. I think the basemap that came with the ecu is not optimal. I am going to get it tuned when I get the money. I think I will just put the stock one back in for now. I idled better anyway.
