The knock sensor is not required for the engine to run properly. It is a safety feature for the engine. When the sensor senses detonation it will retard the timing to prevent damage to the engine. I have ran my D without this sensor (broken during supercharger install) for over 3 years with no ill effects. As long as your engine is in good running condition you should be ok..

Yeah... just plug in the blue part of the plug into the harness and make sure the little metal parts are not touching if they are still attached to it. Then reset the ecu and the light should stay off.. Keep in mind the engine looks for the contact of the little filiments in the knock sensor to engage the cel and retard the timing therefore by plugging in the blue plug without these filliments renders the sensor useless

I would get that fixed ASAP and drive it like a little lamb meanwhile. On my Toyota the knock sensor was located under the intake manifold (very difficult to replace). If the Honda is easy access its a no-brainer to get it done immediately.

I agree that it is important, but the block that I have did not come with one stock... which is the reason I would try to by pass it. granted it also didnt have vtec stock either. I just got to my buddies house and I will have a look tomorrow. I am going to replace it if it does have one, but if not I am going to try this by-pass trick. sorry to hear about your toyota

Re: How important is the knock sensor?
alright just found out that the car does have a knock sensor drilled in. have not looked to see where the wire goes or if the wire is bad. but I was wondering if there were any other knock sensors that will work in this car. thanks a ton

Re: How important is the knock sensor?
if you dont have a knock sensor that is in working order then your vtec "will not work." also if your engine begins knocking your ecu will retard your ign. timing and rich out your injectors....if its there keep it if it broken then fix
