Default check engine light on

ok well i got my car running with the b18c1 and i put the stock p72 ecu in
i havent had a chance to wire up my knock sensor so i know thats why the light is on
what i want to know is does the ecu retard the timming or does it change the fuel curve in anyway and is it harmful to run the engine without that knock sensor
im going to get the sensor wired up by the end of the week but i was just curious if it was gonna cause any harm to the engine.

will the engine run better once i hook it up
thanks

Default Re: check engine light on (In The 16s)

better safe than sorry, b/c the knock sensor should pick up a lot of different problems that could arise.

ALSO>>> make sure you use shielded wire for the knock wire. i did not and threw the code until i nabbed the wire out of a different harness. i didn't know if my engine was knocking, if the sensor was bad, or if it wasn't wired in correctly. now i know all of those things are ok, and no cel is good!!!
