How I passed RI emissions with a JDM b16a2!!! No cheating!!!
"If its a real JDM motor it will never pass emissions"
Heres the scenario in my 92 Si hatch:
96 JDM b16a2 with about 50k on it
Round 1)
-car sound hi-flow cat
-ram air
-new O2 sensor
-everything else stock
ran it on the sniffer and it failed MISERABLY!
HC = 2x the limit
C02 = 6x limit
NOX = passed
searched honda tech and got a few answers, but nothing solid, talked to alot of people and read alot of threads on this site, tryed a colaboration of many things
Round 2)
-car sound cat hi-flow
-ram air
-new O2 sensor
+
-full tune -up.....ngk plugs, mallory wires, OEm cap
-ran one prior tank of gas on "Guaranteed To Pass"
-turned fuel pressure down from 35 psi to 20 psi
-ran 1/4 tank 91 and 10 ounces of Isopropyl Alcohol
-made sure car was warm so cat was working
results
HC = 3/4 the limit
C02 = 1/2 the limit!!
NOX = barely passed
the only downside to my setup was the increase in NOX, which is combustion temperature, probably from the alcohol.
Just thought I would post this to end any myths that JDM motors wont pass emissions. Rhode Island smog is very strict oh and if anyone wants the numbers I can post them. It can be done and I didnt have to pay anyone off to give me a tag!!!

Try running a real cat. My emissions are fine.
I haven't noticed anything inordinatly different with the JDM engine over the USDM engine. It's the same engine, sans having to T off the fuel presure regulator to provide vacuum to the Evap Purge Solenoid.

Umm correct me if i'm wrong, is'nt a B16a2 a US motor? I thought B16a was JDM? Anyway, I passed too by just plugging up my stock ECU to my B18c( had a b16a2 stock) and passed but I have OBD2.

when people say b16a2 they usually are refering to the 2nd gen jdm b16 that has 170hp instead of 160
