do you know about how many yards it was just for the headliner? and also did you get the fabric at a sale rack cuz at joann's here they dont have the alcantara black suede and the one they do have is alot more than 5 bucks a yard.

Re: HOW TO: DIY Custom Interior Project - **NO56K**"
Well.......the back seat is another ballad of "just my luck"......
My plan for the backseat is to have them custom wrapped... I bought the Alcantara Black Suede and the same style tweed that matches the Recaros in the front....
My idea was to wrap the outsides and tops of the EM1 seats in the Suede and where the colored inner patterns are on the seats i would do the tweed.... The seats in the back will be all black. I was looking into getting the red top stitch like the ITR seats, but because of the seams and way they are put together, it would be VERY hard to have the stitch line be straight....
Well I was referred to a local automotive reupholster who works on all kinds of cars. Although antique Ford Model T's are his specialty.... I dropped off my seats and fabric to him and told him what I would like to have done...he said Im going to a show in Tennessee for the week for some work, but ill be back and then give me 2-3 weeks and ill have them done for you. he gave me a great price quote and I was super excited to have things actually working out for my troublesome backseats.....
Well.....on the third week of him being back and having my seats, I was eager to find out how he was doing and getting super excited to finally be on the closing steps of my interior....
I work all week until about 7 and was planning on giving him a ring on Saturday to hopefully swing by and pick up my new seats.....
On Friday, I was reading the paper about a Local Fire Chief who was performing a burn drill operation at the drill house and became short of breath and was removed from the drill....He was later pronounced dead upon arriving to the hospital. He was the fire chief for over 10 years, had been with the department for over 25 and was doing something he routinely did once a month. His entire department was at the scene all EMS and emergency crew on standby and waiting during the drill.
Reading the obituarie, it says that he lived on ***** road, and also worked at his shop at his house doing auto upholstery specifically on Antique Model T's......
Yes....the guy who is doing my seats, is the guy in this article....i couldnt believe it....i didnt know what to say....
Obviously his death is way more substantial then my puny little seats, but people were telling me to think positive and maybe he had already done them and had not yet gotten a chance to call me, or maybe he started them and his son will be able to finish them....
Also, I wasnt going to call his house and speak to his grieving family and wife and say, "Hey....I dropped my seats off..."..... no.....I waited a week or two and it wokred out for the best because his son actually called me to let me know that my seats were at the shop, but he had not even started them yet.
I picked them up that weekend, and I am now waiting to have time to bring them to another local shop that hopefully will do great work....
I am not at all upset/mad about the situation, cause after all....hes no longer....
my seats can be replaced, lives can not.....
Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I will be able to get down to the other shops and see what they can do for me........
Im gotta go shoot some pics of the interior with the Recaros in......

okay having a hard time picturing what you have in mind. this is what i think your saying: the bottom cushion is black with a red squar where you sit and the back cushion is all black with red stiching? or did i get that wrong. when i get off work im going to photoshop a pic of what i think and will post it

lol
all black....top and bottom....
the parts where you sit is going to be the tweed like the center portion of the Recaros....and the outsides are going to be the suede....ALL BLACK....i was going to to a red top stitch along the seams like the OEM USDM ITR seats but it would be extremely difficult and time consuming to make it be a straight stitch.

Damn keep up the good work, can't wait to see the pics with the seats..
And the seats look intact as hell, usually those Recaros have worn side bolster and/or inserts.
