Default High idle after headgasket replacement.

Hey guys, been looking around the site for quite a while. But had to join because i cannot figure out my issue.

I have a 99 civic d16y7, m/t

I replaced the headgasket by removing the head along with the i/m attached. I was gonna do the timing belt and water pump, but couldnt get the crankbolt out, but the gasket was an absolute must.

Anyways while the head was off i removed the throttle body to clean it, put everything back together and the car had a high idle with a surge with p0505 code, removed the iacv and cleaned it and reinstalled and the surging went away and the code didnt come back. but when i started the test drive, the idle stayed right around 1800 rpms, seemed sluggish, backfired everytime i let off the gas, and smelled nothing but fuel. Got a p1129 code. Did some research and went and double checked the mechanical and ignition timing, everything looked good. Had a friend verify it also. I replaced the iacv valve and the code didnt come back and the rpms have dropped to 1100rpms give or take 100. But when giving it gas and i bring the rpms up, right at 3000rpms the motors starts breaking up

I adjusted the throttle cable to ensure that the throttle plate closes all the way. I never touched the throttle screw. I made sure there were no leaks in any of the hoses, BUT when i started spraying starter fluid around the throttle body the rpms actually dropped anf sounded normal.....the same happens when i cover the throttle body with my hand....

Now.....when i replaced the throttle body gasket i noticed there is one for a manual and one for an automatic, i obviously got the manual one, but whats the difference inbetween the two of them? And is there a possibility that i have an automatic throttle body on my i/m? (Bought it used).

What am i missing? Im stumped.

Thank you in advance!

Make sure you put the throttle body gasket on correctly, its probrally on the wrong way causing a blockage to the ports in the throttle body.

Thats exactly what was wrong, replaced the throttle body gasket, and the p1129 code went away but now its back to square 1 with the P0505 and surging/high idle

make sure the IACV seal is still good, and make sure the plug harness to the IACV is still good and has no pulled wires from the plug housing, it happens and the IACV does not have a proper connection and you have codes and idle issue.

Narrowed it down to a leak on the front of the tb, at the iacv. The seal is brand new and the hoses are too, as well as the tb gasket. Sprayed some carb cleaner in that area and the rpms dropped and then the engine stalled. However if i put my hand on top of the tb, the rpms lower to the normal idle range.

Make sure your TB gasket is on correctly and not blocking any ports to the TB.
